Mr. Manley. Rumours of a Fall Federal Election are increasing. It was hoped that you would take action on Access to Historic Census prior to that happening. The longer you sit on the Report of the Expert Panel on Access to Historic Census the less likely that is to happen. It is imperative that action be taken on this issue before the next Census is taken in 2001. As has been done the past few days regarding changes to Employment Insurance I call on you to present a Government Bill that would allow public access to Historic Census after a reasonable period, and to see it passed before an election is called. Bill C-484 is ready made for you and addresses all concerns regarding access to Census. The UI Bill reportedly affected 600,000 Canadians. Access to Historic Census is of interest to an estimated 7.5 MILLION Canadians -- most of whom are VOTERS. I call on you once more to IMMEDIATELY release the Report of the Expert Panel on Access to Historic Census to the public. That Report is the result of efforts of many thousands of Canadians seeking restored access to Post 1901 Census reports. It was paid for by us, the Public, and we wish to see what we paid for. It is our right! What are you waiting for? Gordon A.
