>From a former posting:- There are many "Aunt Iva people" -- she wants to know she is included on a Canadian census -- others want to find family members. So -- let's stop procrastinating -- when you are shopping buy some colored No. 10 envelopes -- hot pink would be noticeable!!!! Next time I will tell you what to do with these -- at last count you will need 205 envelopes -- the FENCE-SITTERS and the BLUE ????? =========================== To all:- Knowing that e-mails are not always answered -- often counted -- let's aim for a WRITTEN letter to be mailed Sept. 10, 2000 as House of Commons resumes on Sept. 18, 2000. The following is my way of doing multiple letters:- - The letter must be suitable for both sexes, political party unmentioned - Emphasize that ALL Members of Parliament should have the courtesy to reply to ALL Canadians -- not use the excuse of "their own riding". - Draw attention to the Member of Parliament Scoreboard, to be published prior to the next federal election, which could be called any time after Sept. 5, 2000:- http://www.globalgenealogy.com/census/index6.htm [I will be sending letters first to FENCES, then to ????? - change of wording] - Remind Members that Jason Kenney, MP has third hour of debate and vote on Motion M-160; Murray Calder has Bill C-484; Senator Lorna Milne has Bill S-15, which has had second reading. Ask for SUPPORT. - Statistics Canada or someone has issued a great deal of incorrect information re privacy and release of census records. Direct the person to THE MYTHS OF CENSUS by Gordon Watts, sent to all -- at: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Farm/7843/poll.html - If you have a personal story, like my Aunt Iva, age 98, use it by all means! - The Question to be used -- could be in black type (so they see it): "Would you, as an elected Member of the House of Commons of the Parliament of Canada, vote FOR or AGAINST a Bill supporting release to the Public, of Post 1901 Census Records, 92 years after they were recorded. ( 1911 census information available in 2003, 1921 in 2013 etc)" [YOUR version may be used -- as long as it means the same] Your letter should be no longer than one page Set up your letter, your full address may be at the bottom of the page, as one line, below your signature -- to be written in ink. My system is to type the name and riding, e.g. Ms. Wendy Lill, MP - Dartmouth House of Commons, Parliament Buildings Ottawa, Ontario K1A 0A6 [Postage is FREE - your cost will be envelopes, paper and time]. As each letter is being printed, I address the envelope. Go back to the letter and change the name and riding -- repeat process. Please remember, a few well-chosen words and paragraphs will do more than a lengthy epistle. If anyone wants assistance in wording a letter, send it along, just mark it LETTER HELP and I will go over it. Mark the date on your calendar -- let's flood The Hill post-office. Muriel M.
