From: Anne Parkes <anneparkes@home.com> The following is being posted with the hope that all who are searching might obtain needed information. National Registration was necessary -- beginning in 1940, one celebrated his/her 16th birthday by "getting registered". As World War II did not end until 1945, registration was carried over until 1946, I believe. One who had to register!!! Muriel M. Davidson <davidson3542@home.com> -----Original Message----- If anyone has already obtained one of these files, can you tell us how detailed the information might be?? Hope the following helps. It was from a lister on another list from September 23. Here's what she had to say. "The Census Pensions Searches Unit of Statistics Canada holds a "National Registration file of 1940". This "file" was compiled between 1940 and 1946 to register all persons, male and female, 16 years of age and older in Canada. Where a person has been deceased for more than 20 years, the information is no longer considered to be personal and can be accessed by others. You need proof that the person has been deceased for 20 years (an obituary notice is acceptable), and you more or less need to know where they were living in Canada in the1940's but some of the information could be of benefit to genealogists by providing clues to immigration dates, date and place of birth, etc. " She states that it's a bit of a lottery as to how much new information you'll find but may be worth it to some. She was able to pinpoint when a grandfather immigrated to Canada and that he had served in the military, his unit and rank. She further suggested the following web sites for more detailed info: http://www.statcan.ca/english/IPS/Data/93C0006.htm http://www.tbaytel.net/bmartin/natreg.htm ==== BRITISHHOMECHILDREN Mailing List ==== BHC Registry (Database)and BHC Website: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~britishhomechildren BHC Chat: http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/descendantsofhomechildren ============================== The only real-time collaboration tool that allows you and other family members to create a FREE, password-protected family tree. http://www.ancestry.com/oft/login.asp
