Following is the reply I received from the Gerald Keddy Conservative election team to my question re the census release Dear Shirley, Thank you for your note! We appreciate your taking the time to write Gerald with your question. Gerald asked me to relay to you that as a student of history, he is very concerned that geneological information from the census be available in the public domain and should not be destroyed. As you state, geneological information that could be available through other sources should be in the public domain. Gerald's only concern was with how to handle financial information which is protected information that could be traced to living relatives. Even still, there seems little reason to destroy information that would prove invaluable to future historians. Gerald himself is quite interested in his family history and attended a historical society meeting (in period costume!) last Saturday in Mahone Bay. Gerald was talking about his lineage back 8 generations to Alexander Keddie in 1758 who was elected to the first legislative assembly of Nova Scotia representing Lunenburg County. We hope this information is of assistance in helping to determine where Gerald stands on this issue. If you have any further questions on this or any other matter, please do not hesitate to contact us! Best regards, TEAM KEDDY Ryan Telford Policy & Correspondence Manager
I have tried to get a statement re release of the 1911 census from our local Conservative candidate, Sean Casey. In late May I had a conversation with Sean on my doorstep re the platform of the Conservative party re the census issue. To his credit he was aware of the situation and did talk about the death of S-13. He had worked in the office of an Alliance member in the last government so probably saw, not necessarily read, many of our e-mails. Sean did not know what the Conservative party had to say about the census release. In fact the Conservative party does not have an approved platform.... wait until October for that. Sean promised to get back to me in a few days with an answer. No such luck. Ten days ago I e-mailed him asking for a response and suggesting that my vote would be based partly on the position of the Conservative party on this issue. As of today there has been no response again. Am I voting Conservative??? Not likely.
