    3. This is a copy of a letter, I have sent to the CapeBreton Post in response to an article in the CapeBreton Post, June 28th "Murray aims a final backhand against Harper." Copies have gone to Gordon Watts, Stephen Harper (Conservative Leader), Kenzie MacNeil (Conservative Candidate for C.B./C, and Rodger Cuzner MP, CapeBreton/Canso. As there was an attachment 'Joe Clark's letter', I couldn't send the original to the list. Senator Lowell Murray though a former CapeBretoner, is a senator for Pakeham, Ont. and it why that CBPost probably carried the article. Regards Juanita ..................... The only thing 'reprehensible' was that Senator Lowell Murray would make a such comments (C.B Post, June 28th/04 "Murray aims a final backhand against Harper.") Was it a last ditch effort by Sen. Murray (former confidante to Brian Mulroney and Joe Clark) to cosy up to the Liberals in hopes that they remain in power to help him further his cause of denying present and future generations of Canadians their heritage? Here is a man who has been fighting along with others to deny Canadians their rights as they now stand (under the National Archives Act, Privacy Act and Access to Freedom and Information Act) to have access to the Historical Census Records of Canada. Senator Lowell Murray endorses Chief Statistician Dr. Fellegi's plan to have the Statistics Act of Canada changed so as to deny Canadians and future generations their right to know. The Liberals though saying they endorse the Historical Census Records being turned over to the National Archives and given access by the public, have yet to do so. The Progressive Conservative stand on the issue at the time Joe Clark was the leader of the party was: "Progressive Conservative Party of Canada supports the release of the 1906 census as soon as possible. I believe that the ninety-two year waiting period recommended by the Expert Panel on Access to Historical Census Records is indeed an effective compromise for the release of census data, protecting the right to privacy and preserving the ability of all Canadians to access this priceless information." Joe Clark personally signed the letter. It is obvious Senator Lowell Murray wasn't in agreement with Joe Clark either so it doesn't surprise me that he would not agree with Stephen Harper, who also endorsed that these records be released to the National Archives for public access. Mr. Harper obviously isn't the "bogeyman" some would like to make him out to be. Thank heaven that Senator Lowell Murray, (Pakeham, Ont.), does not sit the Senate representing Nova Scotia, especially one representing CapeBreton. Maybe he has been gone for so long that he has forgotten how much CapeBretoners value their history, and their access to it. Juanita MacDonald Whycocomagh, Nova Scotia
