    1. Post-1901 Census:- Let's Look At the Numbers

    3. To all:- Has anyone checked the symbols on the House of Commons scoreboard recently? Believe it or not, there are almost as many who have not replied as there are ones who agree to release of the 1911 census. It is encouraging to find only ONE is against and has a RED symbol -- http://www.globalgenealogy.com/Census/Score3.htm#ON I would like to know the REAL reason why he feels that way -- is it political party instruction or a personal matter -- do not worry, I am not talking behind this MP's back -- he is copied in. There are a total of 140 out of 308 in agreement of release. http://www.globalgenealogy.com/Census/Index6.htm We find the ONE against with a RED X, 36 cannot decide whether to say YES or NO -- but we have 131 who cannot be bothered to answer OR are new to Ottawa OR do not as yet have secretarial assistance. Many state -- "You are not one of my constituents so I do not have to answer to you". The 308 elected Members of Parliament have a Canadian responsibility when voting -- THEY vote for all of us, not just his or her own constituents. The 308 Members of Parliament might be surprised how many of us watch CPAC -- especially when there is voting on a bill -- which is generally not a FREE vote. Many are newly-elected -- these are the ones who need letters, Gordon has marked all with ** Remember, we desire the census records released WITHOUT any restrictions -- release date was June 1, 2003 -- only a year late!! Gordon Watts listed questioned, which also appear above the scoreboard -- put these IN YOUR OWN WORDS -- we do not desire to be like the government and use form letters -- different letters will be more interesting to read. Try to keep the letter to one page -- if desired send an e-mail, BUT then print the memo and send in a wierd sized envelope -- no cost for even 9 x 11 -- we have paid the postage. YOUR full name and address plus telephone number should be on all letters to MPs -- some prefer to answer by snail-mail. I have about 100 letters to go next week -- the first one is to the Minister(s) of Health -- one main one, plus others in each party. We all have families, lost members, the 1911 census was the LAST one before World War ONE. It would be great if the Prime Minister would direct the Chief Statistician to release the records to History & Archives Canada, there will be lots of room on the Automated Genealogy site. Tomorrow I will be posting the main addresses and questions posted last week by Gordon. Teenagers? I know many would love to see his or her ancestor's names on a census record -- for many it would be his or her gr.gr.gr.gr.gr.gr.grandparent [possibly even another "gr."] As all will be of voting age in the next election, letters are welcome!!! Address: NAME, House of Commons, Ottawa, ON KIA OA6 A copy is requested so Gordon can be kept posting!! Muriel M.
