    3. To the Hon. Scott Brison:- Hello Scott -- A letter posted to the CANADA-CENSUS-CAMPAIGN mail list shows a very, distinct negative reply -- unlike former replies. Somewhere in Ottawa there is a paper graveyard where Bill S-13 is buried as of last year. The bill was not written by the one who presented it -- but by an employee of the government. See http://www.globalgenealogy.com/Census/Score5.htm#NS Click on OUR home province - Nova Scotia, then click on your name. Underneath will be data to and from you and others who have received mail from you. The following is a letter to me 10/13/99, a copy of which was posted to Mr. and Mrs. Brooks last year. ============ Dear Ms. Davidson Thank you for your recent correspondence regarding your desire to have post 1901 census data available to the public. I too find hard to believe that restrictions would be put on access to information regarding the 1901 and 1911 census. Surely after so many years, it is doubtful that anyone's privacy would be risked. Last year a Motion (M-571) was introduced in the House of Commons calling on Parliament to release such information. Unfortunately, the government prorogued Parliament meaning that all outstanding bills and motions were wiped off the list for debate. I understand that the motion will be reintroduced, quite soon. I assure you that I will be supporting the motion. Yours sincerely, Scott Brison, M.P. Kings - Hants ========== Scott -- Bill S-13 was designed to be restrictive because Dr. Ivan P. Fellegi prefers NOT to transfer the 1911 census records to History and Archives Canada. At present, the only one who can order the transfer is the Prime Minister -- who is also the only one who can suggest Dr. Ivan P. Fellegi take his well-earned retirement. The 1911 census was designated to be released June 1, 2003. We obtained release of the 1906 on January 24, 2003, not 1998. http://www.automatedgenealogy.com/ is online -- an index of the past, assisting many to find lost family members. It is true the microfiche records do show more data -- religion, nationality, occupation, place of birth, and often total money eared in the census year. {I learned my grandfather made the large sum of $1600 in 1901, a goodly sum for that year -- as a farmer and fisherman] WHAT or WHO has changed your reply? Is it an uneducated assistant? If so, the Canada Census Committee members suggest you educate her or insist that you personally reply to "sticky" issues like the census. Please correct the uneducated reply re the restrictive Bill S-13 -- May it Rest in Peace (Pieces). Muriel M.
