    3. Re: Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Disease Research There has been several notes of complaint about diseases being published on the CENSUS list. If Genetically Inherited Diseases is the catalyst that opens the gate to the census records, we may be on the right track - also we like to know. Also - to date, the listowner has not complained -- we just want the post-1901 census records OPEN for US to use. Muriel M. Davidson <davidson3542@home.com> ============================================ [Copied from Parkinson's Disease site] MICHAEL J. FOX PUTS PARKINSON'S IN THE SPOTLIGHT On the heels of a strong cover story in the current edition of Newsweek and a powerful segment on ABC's "20-20" program Wednesday night, Parkinson's will remain in the media spotlight for a week or more as celebrity-spokesman Michael J. Fox continues his media tour celebrating the creation of the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's research. Appearances included:- Wednesday, May 24 Fox's final appearance on Spin City, the NBC series that he created. The show will feature the Foundation's new public service announcement. Along with all everyone else who is hell-bent on ending this crippling condition for ever, the Parkinson's Disease Foundation salutes and applauds Mike's appearance as our leading spokesman. We are fully aware - as he is - of the power of celebrity in a media culture and of the enormous power it can bring both to raising awareness and understanding of Parkinson's disease and to building public support for the scientific research that alone can end it. ============ All Canadians salute Mike Fox -- now only 38, was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease about 10 years ago. Truly a great Canadian! Muriel M. Davidson <davidson3542@home.com> ===================================== From: RWLNGSM@aol.com To: davidson3542@home.com Muriel, My mom was recently diagnosed with Parkinson's and we were told that PD is NOT hereditary although they still do not know its cause. To my knowledge there is no one in her family history who had PD or any symptoms similar to PD. If you have info to the contrary, please let me know. Thanks! Marilyn - Florida ============== Marilyn:- Anyone studying genetics at present has a different viewpoint than doctors who graduated even ten years ago. There are similar diseases but I would definitely keep a medical card file [This information from my grandson - in medical school, studying Genetics and all that goes with it]. Muriel ================================= Good girl. Makes me sorry I missed this interesting message the first time! If you have it, please forward to me! Thanks, Di Diane Donley <ddonley@idirect.com> cemetery coordinator, York Region Br, OGS =================================== Dear Mr Bagley, and list members, My name is Anna and I wanted to write to you to mention that just one year ago I began researching my family tree...( my biological family) as I am adopted for the very reason being discussed on the list...for genetic reasons related to health history. It was for this reason..and only this reason. Since beginning my research I have been fortunate to obtain health information from burial certificates, etc. Any records that can help me with my search are very important to me. I have also found that I am related to my adoptive mother (cousins)...and am now researching for both health AND genealogical reasons. Parkinsons disease and its symptoms, though not proven to be hereditary, has shown up in the last 4 generations of my family, including my mother. Thank you for your time. Anna Purdue <purdue@nbnet.nb.ca> ===================================== Dear Anna: I hope your research continues to be successful and helpful. The really nice thing about the Internet and forms like this one is it gives people like myself the opportunity to express our views and it gives others the opportunity to disagree. It is all about learning. Ross Bagley <bagley.wray@sympatico.ca> ============================ Speak for yourself, sir. If your family had a history of Parkinson's, you'd support anything that would lead to a break through. One of the reasons many people become interested in genealogy is to trace their family's medical history. I've not noticed that we've been overwhelmed with "pet" charities - and I don't think we will now. People do use a modicum of common sense. Regards, Lotus Young <nonnie@t-one.net> ============================= Good for you, Muriel...there but for the grace of God go I (and all the rest of us. As a home care nurse, I am hoping for the day that we exercise a little more patience and understanding in the pursuit of our own goals - every day is a gift! Have a great day, Shannon Loechner <scloechner@home.com> ================================= From: "Adrian and Linda" <adr@istar.ca> To: "Muriel M. Davidson" <davidson3542@home.com>, <NOVA-SCOTIA-L@rootsweb.com> Did anyone hear on TV today that coffee is believed now to prevent Parkinson's development in people by up to 500%! First good thing I have eard about coffee (I do not drink it). Audrey ========================================
