Many thanks to all members of the Alberta Family History Society for adding 51 signatures on petitions to the Senate of Canada for release of our Post-1901 census records. Freda Stewart, a Canada Census Committee member, forwarded the petitions with a short note. Freda stated there were a couple of events coming up in September and October where the AFHS plans to make its presence known. Also, the FamilyRoots 2004 event is mid-October with a demo planned for that -- Thanks, Freda! Both Senate and House of Commons petitions may be signed at the same time, street addresses may be regarded as personal privacy. We need only name, city, province and postal code. http://www.globalgenealogy.com/Census/index.htm/ [Addresses where to send petitions are also there--Page 1 is needed.] Alberta has been the province which provided the most signatures in the past -- I have kept the records on disk. Above all, not only committee members may obtain signatures on petitions but even teenagers! This petition is new and although one may have signed the previous one, all may sign again. Muriel M.
