Thank you Katherine for an excellent letter, and an excellent example of something else that can be done in support of our campaign. Perhaps we have some listers that might be on various school boards and that might encourage their participation as well. Anyone else out there with examples of what they have done to garner support for our cause? Feel free to post them to the CCC list. FYI One of our local high school teachers has asked his students to prepare a 4 generation history of their family. On hearing this, I contacted the teacher and requested his help with our petitions. Here is a copy of my letter, Thank you for your interest in genealogy and teaching your students to have an interest in their own Family History. I have enclosed a letter from our Chairperson, Gordon Watts of the Canadian Census Campaign, where he is requesting signed petitions and a letter to myself from Mr.Watts answering my question, if there was an age restriction on who could sign the petitions. The web link for the Canadian Census Campaign is http://www.globalgenealogy.com/Census en francais http://www.globalgenealogy.com/Census/Index_f This will answer any questions that you may have about our organization. You are welcome to contact Gordon Watts directly if you have any further questions. I have enclosed copies of the petitions that we are collecting signatures on. Please notice that there is one for the House of Commons and one for the Senate of Canada. When you circulate the petitions for signatures, please have them sign both petitions. I encourage you to have all students and staff, support the release of the 1911 Canadian Census. The following web link is the Library and Archives Canada http://www.collectionscanada.ca http://www.collectionscanada.ca/archivianet/020122_e.html At this site the students may review the 1901 Canadian Census and the 1906 Northwest Provinces Census. Perhaps the students could look for their ancestors that would be listed on the census. This would help them to understand why we are seeking release of the 1911 Canadian Census. Also why it is so important that our Canadian Government should preserve all future census for the History of Canada and release them to the public 92 years after collection. I would appreciate if you could address this subject and collect the signatures within the next 3 weeks. Please return the petitions to me and I will forward them to our Canadian Census Committee. Once again, Thanks for your interest. Katherine Fraser ==== CANADA-CENSUS-CAMPAIGN Mailing List ==== How to unsubscribe from Digest Mode.
