As posted on BRITISHHOMECHILDREN-L@rootsweb.com list. Hello I know this is a bit outside the usual scope of this list but some of us who passed through the hands of the Barnardos organization in the UK in later years and were then adopted, are fairing little better than the ancestors of those who were migrated in earlier years, when it comes to getting access to records, I would be most grateful to hear from anyone who can help in putting pressure on Barnardos to accept its Human Rights obligations in the UK. Currently Barnardos use the UK adoption legislation as a way of denying those who have been adopted in later childhood full access to their pre adoption records. I am in the process of attempting to take some legal action to get this situation changed and would like to hear from anyone one who has had a problem with Barnardos and access to their own or their ancestors records. I would particularly like to contact any one who has approached Barnardos Counselling Services Project at Barkingside UK, for access to either their adoption file or records of their time in Barnardos' care and have found the response that they received to be unsatisfactory. Barnardos' policy on adoptees access to records can be seen at : http://info.harritt.net/barnardos I can be contacted by leaving a message at 0207 691 9668 Via web mail at http://email.harritt.net or e-mail bp@harritt.co.uk Or by post to: Robin Harritt, Bontddu Burton End Stansted Mountfitchet Essex CM24 8UF Many thanks for your patience in reading this.
