    3. Dear Assistant 1:- We have had many, many assistants replying on behalf of the ELECTED Members of Parliament -- the assistants give their opinion, only. Very often, we have learned the Member of Parliament has never even been shown or told about any message. The Canada Census Committee is a volunteer group of dedicated men and women, working for ALL of Canada and release of the census. I am certain Mr. Watts will assign Ms. Carroll one huge RED X -- meaning NO -- because of your comment "this is how the system works". Should Ms. Carroll be allowed to read her own mail, and comment on same, we will be happy to hear from her. Also, your subject heading is misspelled!!! Muriel M. 1. [CCC] Thanksgiving Greetings
    2. Gordon A. WATTS
    3. 9 October 2000 Hon. John Manley Minister of Industry Sir: On behalf of the many thousands of Canadian Citizens who seek their ancestry though the use of Census records, I send you Thanksgiving Greetings. It would truly be a time of Thanksgiving if you would see fit to release to the Public the Report of the Expert Panel on Access to Historic Census Records. You have been sitting on this Report for more than three months. It is time now to stand up and be counted. I call on you now, as I have done several times previously, to immediately release to the Public, the Report of the Expert Panel on Access to Historic Census Records. I further call on you to accept MP Murray Calder's Bill C-484, "an Act to amend the Statistics Act and the National Archives of Canada Act (census records)", as a Government Bill, and to expedite passage of that Bill, thus assuring that the upcoming Census of 2001 is covered thereby. Bill C-484 is a replica of Senator Lorna Milne's Bill S-15 which has completed second reading in the Senate, and is currently in committee. Mr. Manley, this is an issue that has been under discussion for at least thirty years. It is time to put an end to the discussion and to act decisively, taking the necessary steps to allow public access to Historic Census Records, 92 years after collection, as currently permitted under Regulation 6.(d) of the Privacy Act. You have the opportunity, and it is your responsibility, to act now. I respectfully urge you to do so. Gordon A. 3. Thank you Sheila, for your kind words and Thanksgiving wishes. They are much appreciated. As serious as we are in our quest to obtain access to Historic Census, it is truly a sad day that we cannot find a bit of humour here and there. To all of our Canadian listers I wish the best Thanksgiving ever. We could truly give thanks to John Manley if he would see fit to release the Report of the Expert Panel. To our listers from the US, we will send Thanksgiving greetings to you next month. Happy Hunting. Gordon ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sheila Ward" <sheilaward@home.com> To: "Gordon A. 2. Muriel M. Davidson
    3. To Mr. Joe Clark, MP:- As a former Nova Scotian, I felt like I had lost a good friend when Scott Brison stepped aside to let you have the opportunity to run for office in Kings-Hants riding. However, to date all attempts to contact you have failed. We would like to know your view re release of post-1901 Canadian census records, with a great deal of information available at: http://www.globalgenealogy.com/census http://www.globalgenealogy.com/census/index6.htm Mr. Stockwell Day has given his support to future bills, C-484 by Murray Calder and S-15 by Senator Lorna Milne. Our Prime Minister is still deciding YES or NO/OUI ou NON. Do you have the courage to ask, during Question Period, for the Report of the Expert Panel to be released for all to read? Many of us are CPAC watchers -- we like to know what our elected ones are doing or not doing. As Scott Brison was fully in SUPPORT of census release, as is your wife, Maureen McTier. Kings-Hants riding deserves this type of support for the many family researchers of the area. We fully expect you to be in the GOLD (YES) group with Stockwell Day and Alexa McDonough!! Muriel M. 1. [CCC] Belated Letter from Stockwell Day
    2. Muriel M. Davidson
    3. October 5, 2000 Muriel M. Davidson davidson3542@home.com Dear Ms. Davidson: Please accept my belated, but very sincere, thanks for your e-mail message. Your kind words were very encouraging to me, as I continue to work hard to bring about positive change and hope for Canadians. I certainly appreciate your comments about the importance of accessing post-1901 census records from the National Archives. Canadian Alliance MP Jason Kenney's motion M-160 deals with the most immediate priority- the 1911 census. It seeks to have the government release the results of the 1911 census, and by implication every census thereafter. I am aware that thousands of Canadians have an interest in this matter, and have expressed a very acute interest in the passage of the motion. Genealogists, archivists, librarians, researchers, historians and interested Canadians have asked for the government to release the 1911 archives for the census of that year. The motion was originally deferred in the House as a result of the proposed amendment put forth by Mac Harb. Unfortunately, we were unable to defeat the amendment, however, all available Canadian Alliance MPs voted in favour of the motion. Thank you for your interest and for taking the time to write. Respectfully yours, Stockwell Day, M.P. Leader of the Opposition <OLO@parl.gc.ca> /kjs

    3. Dear Ms. Davidson, Thank you for your e-mail in which you requested my support for the release to the National Archives of the post-1901 Canadian Census Records. I have considered this issue very carefully and do support the release of these records. On September 26th I did vote in favour of Jason Kenney's Motion M-160 which states: "That, in the opinion of this House, the government should take all necessary steps to release the 1911 census records once they have been deposited in the National Archives in 2003." Once again, thank you for your e-mail. Sincerely, Leon Benoit, MP Lakeland Constituency

    3. hi all..well gordon..looks like we both got a form letter. although, mine was a little more encouraging and up to date..hmm, anyone which CA mp's were in the house?..)) roz -----Original Message----- From: -Office of the Leader of the Opposition [SMTP:OLO@parl.gc.ca] Sent: Thursday, October 05, 2000 9:19 AM To: 'r_griston@dccnet.com' Subject: October 5, 2000 Roz Griston r_griston@dccnet.com Thank you for your e-mail message. Leader of the Opposition /kjs

    1. [CCC] Response from Stockwell Day
    2. Gordon A. WATTS
    3. Greetings All. Something other than an automatically generated response to email from Stockwell Day. While obviously a message prepared some time ago and only just now sent out it states clearly Mr. Day's supportive position on allowing access to Historic Census. To date, Mr. Day is the first, and only party leader to state clearly this intention on this. This response, sent to others besides myself, is not an answer to my latest email to Mr. Day. In that email, and on the inaugural broadcast of the Internet talk show of EssentialTalk I asked him if he would ask John Manley in Question Period why he refuses to release the Report of the Expert Panel to the public. I have yet to receive an answer on this. Happy Hunting. Your kind words were very encouraging to me, as I continue to work hard to bring about positive change and hope for Canadians.
