    1. [CAN-USA-MIG] birthplace "Canada-Ire"

    3. Hi all. If someone born in 1836 says on a census that they were born in "Canada-Ire", where would that be? My guess would be the Halton County, Ontario area. Any other ideas? Thanks - Donna

Can you tell us exactly where it said "Canada-Ire"? Are you sure it was in the column for place of birth? What year was this census, and where? There are often locations for birth (Canada) and ethnic origin (Irish). Could that be what you saw? There is no such place as "Canada-Ire". You will see such notations as Canada-Eng which means Ontario, or another English speaking province; Canada-Fr which means Quebec or another French speaking province, CW for Canada West; UC for Upper Canada (present day Ontario) or LC for Lower Canada (present day Quebec). I know of no other notations other than the actual province name or abbreviation.
