    3. Did you find reference to the Saxby Gale? See < http://www.palproductions.ca/saxbygale.html > for info. Gordon in Ottawa -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Betty Sent: September 13, 2008 6:21 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [CAN-USA-MIG] "Hurricanes" - US and CAN Hello, Someone on a MA/ US List just mentioned "the Gale of 1883." That reminded me that I wanted to find out about Hurricanes which might have "hit" both the U.S. and Canada. I'm watching the Weather Channel right now and watching "Ike" come into Texas. I have found "timelines" to be helpful in my research, both for genealogy and history. I just tried to find a web site using the term, "hurricane timeline," and found this web site: http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0001443.html It mentions "the Hurricane of Independence" in 1776 - which I have never heard about. It killed over 4000 people, and traveled from North Caroline to Nova Scotia. For people in New England, most of us have heard about the deadly "Hurricane of 1938." It "hit" us without warning and killed 600 people. I don't remember hearing about the hurricane in 1944 which killed almost 400 people, and almost 350 of them were "killed at sea." I was old enough to remember and experience the 2 hurricanes in 1954. This is a timeline about "Deadly Storms" - not necessarily hurricanes: http://www.deadlystorms.com/xtra/hurricane_timeline.htm Just an FYI for you. Betty (near Lowell, MA, USA) List Administrator P.S. I'm having trouble finding a web page describing "a bad Gale in 1883." The few pages I'm finding mention the bad gales involving the United Kingdom (Great Britain). We may have arrived on different ships but we're all in the same boat now. :o) (thinking genealogy) (possibly first said by Martin Luther King, Jr.) When you want to respond to a query or comment posted on this List, I find it MUCH easier to post a new message -- remembering to include the SUBJECT from the post you are responding to !!
