William Burns and his family immigrated from Canada into New York State (St. Lawrence County) in approximately 1839. Initially, they arrived in Canada from Ireland in about 1831. I would be very interested in any information on resources available for researching a family like this. Thanking everyone in advance for help with this situation. Dawna Clark

Dawna, Do you have the names of the wife and children? There are more William Burnes (Byrnes) on the Ontario side of the St. Lawrence, too. Mary Frego Coates [email protected]
Hi Mary, Thanks for your response to my query! William's (who was born c.a. 1798 in Ireland) spouse's name was Nancy (aka Anne) O'Rourke. Her given names seemed to be used interchangeably......which helps a great deal with the confusion! William is buried in Waddington and I have yet to find his wife. Their nine children are: William who may have been born in either Ireland or Canada, Alice who may have been born in either Ireland or Canada, James born 1832 in Canada, Mary Anne 1834 Canada, Thomas 1836 Canada and Barney 1838 Canada. The remaining three children were all born in New York State....Edward, Michael and Franklin/Francis. In about 1839 when they came from Canada I'm uncertain if there were any records kept. It would be interesting to find that out.
