Hello Richard -- I had some idea that HB might have been NB for New Brunswick, but when I looked at the image itself, it's clearly HB; boys with unknown parents. Perhaps HB means "Half-Breed," unless of course, your later documentation proves otherwise. Sorry I could not be more helpful.
