Hi Freda: Funny you should mention Scotch only coming in a bottle. The term "Scotch" to identify Scotsmen in N. America was widely used in both the U.S. & Canada. It is seen in many early books, census data, etc. It does seem to annoy anyone who still lives in Scotland to be called Scotch which is a malt whiskey. Again, education, accents and poor spelling must be kept in mind when reading old records or writings. Of course, being "Scotch" often meant being a penny pincher too. Wonder how often it was mispelled in Parishes in the UK?
