    1. Re: [CAN-USA-MIG] Smiths MaSmith
    2. Perhaps there is no relationship on the Smith side, still looking for Smiths in N. America in our family. Have some French background on my maternal side with the name Pouchard (Pochard/Pushaw) & Robichaux (Robichaud/Robeshaw,). Believe the Robichaux connection had ancestors who emigrated to Acadia when it was under French rule. There were no hints of the Palatine nor French connections by my parents or grandparents. Stumbled on this information, so one can't always believe what their ancestors tell them. Would never think of the name Smith as French? Still wondering about that. Where in France did they come from? People often fibbed about their ethnic background in earlier times to get work. People migration often resulted for land, work or political reasons. Growing up a Smith, learned early to defend its commonness with "there are only two kinds of people in the world, those that are Smiths, and those that wish they were". LOL. As the name suggests a connection to the metal trades, in earlier times, the Smiths probably made a decent living in most clans.
