Were there different districts in Lower Canada? Know one of my chaps (not sure yet if loyalist or Hessian)settled in Grenville (?) (St. Andres) Argenteuil in Lower Canada. This area is fairly close to the present day border of Quebec & Ontario. At one time, parts of Ontario were actually called Canada West! Coming from Manitoba originally thought that meant anything east of the Manitoba/Ontario boundary. Not much settlement in Manitoba until 1870's and 1880's other than the Red River Settlement and fur traders. Think they started surveying the land for settlers in 1870's. Lauraine
