My great grandfather with his family, migrated from England to Ontario in 1861. He was a farmer and needed more land than he had in England. Where would find records of this? His son. my grandfather, immigrated to the USA between 1881 and 1884 when he married my grandmother. **************New MapQuest Local shows what's happening at your destination. You need to get the 1861 and 1871 census - the Agricultural portion. That gives you the exact land location for landowners (Conc and Lot # within a township and county). IT also provides neat details like acres owned, animals owned, type of home etc. You can get details how and where to get this census at http://allcensusrecords.com/ Choose CANADA and the 1861 and 1871 in turn. This is NOT the personal census you want, it is the AGRICULTURAL one. Once you have the exact location of your ancestors' land, you would then get the Abstract Indexes to Deeds for that exact location. That will give you the history of the land ownership from Crown Land days to present. For each index entry that pertains to your ancestor, you would then get the full land record. To learn more about this, how to do it, where to get those records, see http://olivetreegenealogy.com/can/ont/land.shtml Lorine On 10/16/08, [email protected] <[email protected]> wrote: > My great grandfather with his family, migrated from England to Ontario in > 1861.
