Linda, I have had good luck running such a question as yours through the New York Times site. I have used nytimes.com or other variations that might appear. You may enter the subject as I have copied it in the "Subject" caption above. It may require a variety of entries with varying forms of your enquiry. The archives of that paper cover the entire country. Often times the news items are reported over days or months. The fees, if charged, are negligible. I traced a similar murder over a period of time and several inquiries and wound up with all of the facts from 1875 and a subsequent obituary. Good luck. Al
