Hi Listers, Am hope that you folks might have a way to help me, not getting far on my own. I found a snippet of an article from a West Coast paper, reads as follows, from the Sacramento Bee, Saterday, 10, November 1906, pg 7. FORMER HUSBAND SUSPECTED OF MURDER..... news reaches Chico woman, of killing of her mother in Pennsylvinia and Son-in-Law is arrested. "CHICO(BUTTE Co.) November 10 - A telegram was recieved in this city yesterday from LAMBERTSVILLE,PA. , conveying the shocking information that Mrs. Satherine STAUFFER, an aged widow of the city, who has a daughter, Mrs. Sadie Berkebile, and 2 nephews, Joseph and James STAUFFER, residing in this city, was found dead, early yesterday morning, with a bullet hole in her head. The telegram also stated that an attempt was made to chloform the 2 grandchildren. The LAMBERTSVILLE police are of the opinion, that robbery was the probable cause of the murder, but the daughter, believes, although she will not confess it, that her divorced husband committed the deed for revenge. According to MRS. BERKEBILE, employed at present as an accountant on the CHICO Enterprise paper, she journeyed westward, 3000 miles, to escape the persecutions of the husband, who threatenedd on severral occassions to murder the whole family. She was married to BERKEBILE at the age of 16 years, and had 2 children by him. Shortly after the birth of the last child, he deserted her and ran away with the wife of HIS cousin. He soon tired of the new-found companion, however, and for the skae of the 2 children, she took up living with him again. The customary precautions were resumed again and in order to protect her life, she was compelled to sue for a divorce, which has been readily granted. BERKEBILE, still continues his abuses, however, and so she came to California to escape him. On several occassions he has threatened to kill her and the whole family. the end?
