I looked on Ancestry.ca for DuPerrier and found almost nothing. However, there is a lot of John Bench information that I can forward to you if you like. It may not be your John but I guess you won't know if you don't have that information. Let me know. Peggy: Also check BC and all Cda census for 1911. You mentioned BC so perhaps some relatives settled there and he was visiting them. Sometimes people missing on census can even be found on board ships. Have read some UK census data showing crews and passengers on ships in harbours. Peggy: Did you check to see if he had returned to the U.S. for a few months of visiting? Check the U.S. 1910. Thanks Lauraine I have checked every corner of Canada under every variation of spelling that I can think of. He is nowhere to be found. I did think of posting for the 1910 under DuPerrier. I believe last time in the USA in 1910, I was looking only under Perrier, whereas he seemed to switch to Du Perrier while in Auburn. I doubt he would be on a ship as he was usually a shoe cutter but you neve know I guess. Thanks Lauraine, Thank you for this link. I do know that Albert was in Auburn, NY in May and in Red Deer, Alberta in July of 1908. His mother's obit in Jan 1911 says he is in Red Deer, but he is nowhere to be found on the 1911 census. Hiding? I found Maude, horribly misspelled as DuParser(?), and found John with last name Bench but no Albert. It is the actual crossing I was looking for. May not be possible to find. Hi I have checked border crossing records and they did start in 1908, at various times, depending on the crossing point. Douglas Crossing in BC started in Apr 1908 and BC is where the Duperriers stated they were heading even though they ended up in Alberta. I know that Albert, Maude and John came up in 1908, even though Adelbert's parents were already in Alberta since 1899. I have found a possible John Bench, son of Albert Bench, born July 1899, on 1900 Auburn census. John's attestation says July 14, 1897. Might be him. Will post for his birth. I think that Canada didn't start keeping records until around 1908 - but am not sure. Seems to me someone posted the dates for border crossings last year?? Did you try Cda-US-Immigration archives. Search it using border crossings and see what comes up. You might want to try finding the birth of John Bench/DuPerrier in Auburn, NY to see who his parents were. Post asking SKS to do a look up using his birthdate from his attestation papers. Just a suggestion. Both Saskatchewan and Alberta became Provinces in 1905 and until that time census information is listed for them under the Territories. Did you check the Canada 1906 special census for DuPerrier & Bench names? I had so much trouble finding my Smith family in Manitoba Knew where they were, etc. but couldn't find them in the Manitoba Census. Then discovered that area of Manitoba didn't join the Province until 1912 so they were under the Territories too. Hello, I have looked online and there are reels available for crossings at that time via Manitoba. The crossings are Snowflake and Bannerman. Although North Portal, Saskatchewan was a major crossing, records are not available until Dec. 1908 -too late. I don't know if people just went across wherever or whether they had to hit one of the designated crossing points. I did find Adelbert's sister crossing at North Portal in 1912 but the other way, from Alberta, Canada to Minneapolis, USA. She was enroute to Mexico. Three names mentioned below have made tracing my husbands great grandfather Mitchell SHATNEY difficult. Really need to find Mitchell Shatney's marriage to Alice Miles believed to be around Stanstead, Quebec, Canada Harriet Cady By the bye: It was in one of these documents that I realized that some of the descendants of Jean-Baptiste carried the surname Desranleau throughout their lifetimes, rather than Shatney or Chateauneuf.
Hi Lauraine, Adelbert's parents were in Red Deer. I did get Page 2 of the attestation. I have learned that John DuPerrier was really John Bench and that he was related to Maude somehow, as her maiden name was Bench. I have looked for crossings for other people before when I visited the Cloverdale library which is a 2 hr. round trip from here. Ancestry has a section on border crossings. I don't think I looked for DuPerrier before, probably only Perrier. I am not sure if John used Bench or Duperrier when he crossed. He was on the 1901 census as John Bench, but on the attestation papers as DuPerrier. I am trying to find out his parentage now. I have just found out that there was a C.H. Duperrier in Auburn, and wonder if he was related to Adelbert somehow. I do not have him on my family tree. Adelbert's aunt Sara was my g grandmother, and Adelbert's father Edmond was her brother. Thanks for your help Peggy G. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lauraine Syrnick" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, September 01, 2008 12:19 PM Subject: Re: [CAN-USA-MIG] Albert DuPerrier 1908 > > Hi Peggy: > > Is it possible this John could be a son of Albert? Hi Peggy: Do not have Ancestory so hopefully someone else can help. I did find a number of people with the name bench who came into Canada at Grosse Ile on the ship Lake Michigan in 1906 at: http://search-recherche.collectionscanada.ca/ancestors/searchResults.jsp?FormName=CGC&PageNum=1&SortSpec=score+desc&Language=eng&Sources=genapp&ResultCount=15&MaterialDateOperator=&MaterialDate=&DigitalImages=&SearchIn=&Hierarchy=&SearchInText=Bench&soundex=on Look at page 2 after entering name of Bench.
