    3. Hello again Dawna, I'm not an expert on the Irish immigration, but I thought that these immigrants to St. Lawrence County had landed in Montreal (or Grosse Ile, where there is now an Irish memorial, down river from Waddington between Montreal and Quebec City) and then moved up river to St. Lawrence County. There should be a group in Canton that specialises in the Irish Immigration. Mary

    3. Hi Al, The Burns family that I am researching is from Waddington, NY. William and family came across from Canada c.a. 1839. I have quite a bit of information on the children mainly the one son, Barney, from whom the branch I am interested in has continued. What I am trying to determine is where they lived in Canada, where their port of entry into Canada from Ireland was and where they came from in Ireland. So, I'm attempting to find sources for immigration ports in the year 1831 or thereabouts. If you'd have any suggestions or information on that segment of the research I'd be most appreciative. My daughter is married to a Burns and the family runs a trucking business out of Canton, NY. I'm doing the genealogy for my granddaughter who I hope will ultimately be interested in her ancestors! 3. Hi Dawna, I imagine that they are buried in the old Catholic Cemetery which is behind the Dalton family barn! I'm not sure what you are looking for. There are census records for 1840, 1850, 1860 for St. Lawrence County. As well, there are 2 O'Rourk's the records: O'Rourke, John m1 Aug. 17, 1851 Hogansburg Mary Donovan O'Rourke, Mary m1 Feb. 24, 1852 Hogansburg Thomas Flaherty There are still lots of Burns families and Rourke families in Waddington/Madrid NY. I might suggest that you contact the historical society in Massena NY as they have quite a few active members. As well, the county historical group in Canton NY might have more. If you are in the St. Lawrence County area. I would suggest using the records at the County Court House, land and wills as often they will tell you many interesting things about where your family lived and who they left their belongings to. I will forward your note to one of the Dalton's and see if they have any more cemetery info. Mary

    3. Hi Mary, Thanks for your response to my query! William's (who was born c.a. 1798 in Ireland) spouse's name was Nancy (aka Anne) O'Rourke. Her given names seemed to be used interchangeably......which helps a great deal with the confusion! William is buried in Waddington and I have yet to find his wife. Their nine children are: William who may have been born in either Ireland or Canada, Alice who may have been born in either Ireland or Canada, James born 1832 in Canada, Mary Anne 1834 Canada, Thomas 1836 Canada and Barney 1838 Canada. The remaining three children were all born in New York State....Edward, Michael and Franklin/Francis. In about 1839 when they came from Canada I'm uncertain if there were any records kept. It would be interesting to find that out. 1. [CAN-USA-MIG] BREMNER's
    2. PBoudreault-Gilbert
    3. Now that am old enough and no longer intimidated by the internet or posters......want to share something with all of you...:) About 10-15 years ago, a gal from the above surname and I met up on the internet and she was newly landed into Canada's east coast.....so we discussed some and had to let her know that surname had landed here much further back then what it is she was working on, but we still haven't figured out how she relates to me but am also of the surname BREMNER as well....:) In the meantime, there was a cousin who was in California who visited Alberta over the years and always was looking for his aunt Mary......anyways to make a long long story short.......wasn't looking that far south when originally on the net.....so knowing he was elderly, called him and we discussed together.....was he ever pleased when he realized his aunt Mary was in fact my great grand mother.....while discussing with him, he had a slight state side accent to his words while am sure being as am bilingual must of sounded a wee bit odd to him as well, but we talked and discussed and was able to explain how it was he'd been so close to finding her children but had been steered south within the province while her children were north of where it was he kept looking.....anyways, he's since passed away and haven't heard from any of his children......his surname was McINTYRE. Since, there is a McIntyre on the news and every time hear him, wonder if per chance he might not be one of his.....but you know how we've only all have 24 hrs in our days, well as yet haven't taken the time to call him and ask if per chance he may not be related to me......one day, hopefully will do so, but in the meantime..... It's impossible to do everyone's genealogy, so am hoping far more within the many surnames it is am from, are all being worked on by another and another and another of the cousins, cause at least that way, for more will eventually know more then we all did when we first found each other on the net with email but not knowing who else had one? an address am meaning? since then have had to change mine 5 times due to changes in internet providers, systems....etc..... Remember sitting here thinking, now what good is that to me? (big grin) nowadays, it's mmmmm, that address should recognize, but have met so many, starting to not remember who is who? That's the beauty of all of this way of being able to touch and find each other......done in a discuss mode, works great, done in a debate mode.....never respond, just move on, cause sure don't have time to veer from what it is started many many years ago now!....:) Am looking forward to continuing this late fall as right now as you will all understand, this plate in front of me is just to darn full! Am working at make some r00m!.....:))) Keep Well, Keep Working Together, Keep Smiling and Laughing cause it doesn't cost a thing and often makes me smile and am sure it does everyone who needs a break and see's the humongous strides and links being made by so many not within the lines one often is working, but those which it is that are inclusive within all of the surnamed family links? Gotta go now, Paulette

    1. [CAN-USA-MIG] Villages in MA/US which did not become Towns

    3. Hello, If anyone has an ancestor in MA and you found the name of a town, which is not a current town, you might be interested in this list of "unincorporated towns" or "villages within a town" in MA / US. http://www.sec.state.ma.us/cis/cisuno/unoidx.htm I don't know if the other New England State web sites have a similar list. This is a page which lists all the towns and cities "in the Commonwealth." http://www.mass.gov/?pageID=mg2terminal&L=3&L0=Home&L1=State%20Government&L2=Local%20Government&sid=massgov2&b=terminalcontent&f=cc_landing&csid=massgov2 There is a lot of information on the www.mass.gov site if you want to browse around it. Since I mentioned "the Commonwealth of Massachusetts," here is a page describing why we are called that -- and not the State of Massachusetts: http://www.mass.gov/lib/facts/commonwealth.htm Have a pleasant weekend !
