    1. [CAN-USA-MIG] Missing Friends online for 1830-1840
    2. Olive Tree Genealogy
    3. The Missing Friends Project at http://www.olivetreegenealogy.com/MissingFriends/ has added another set of extracts from Newspapers. The recent set is from the Boston Pilot, published in Boston Massachusetts. >From October 1831 to October 1921, the Boston Pilot newspaper printed a Missing Friends (Information Wanted) column with advertisements from people looking for lost friends and relatives who had emigrated from Ireland to the United States & Canada. Many travelling to Canadian ports went on to USA, but others remained in Canada. This project is extracting the names and other details of those who sailed into Quebec and other Canadian Ports of Arrival. Many of those who settled in America sailed to Canadian ports as the cost was much less. This new dataset of Missing Friends from the Boston Pilot is for those who were known to have arrived or settled in Quebec. Since ships passenger lists to Canada did not have to be archvived before 1865, these extractions will form an important piece in the gap in surviving ships passenger lists. Search for your ancestors in the Boston Pilot extracts, 1830-1840 at http://www.olivetreegenealogy.com/MissingFriends/ This is an ongoing project. Feel free to pass this message on to others - enjoy! They owned some land Cheryl If you are going in circles, you are clicking on the same link to the same page. It is best to make your choice, click on the link, let the page load, and then read the page to see where (or IF) you need to choose another page. I'm sorry if my emails to the list were confusing but I never claimed to have the land grants on Olive Tree Genealogy site. They are not online anywhere - that would be a lifetime of work :-) What Olive Tree Genealogy has are the explanations to the land grants, examples, and complete details on how/where to get them. http://olivetreegenealogy.com/can/ont/land.shtml is the first page of the overall explanation of land records in Ontario. As you read about each type of record available, you will see a link to take you to a page that is just about that specific record. So far I have pages for Free Grants, Upper Canada Land Petitions, Abstract Indexes to Deeds and CLRI (Canadian Land Record Index - this one also has a lookup service available) I hope this helps but again - you will not find the land grants online anywhere, you have to consult them offline. 2. Hi all, The Olive Tree site is driving me nuts. For the life of me I can't seem to find the land grants... I find the hyper link to it on the site but it keeps tossing me right back to where I was, thus sending me in circles. Can anyone check this site for land grants in Ontario for a William Putnam or a Seth Putnam from Ireland to Canada. They owned some land on Reynolds Creek where William Putnam and William Reynolds had a lumber mill.. believe the town was called Putnamville back then and now the village is just called Putnam. Also can you check for land grants of William Reynolds and wife Elizabeth Mudge in the Dorchester area of Ontario. Thanks for any help you can offer in this matter. The new pages are online at Free Grants of Crown Land in Ontario at http://www.olivetreegenealogy.com/can/ont/free-grants.shtml and Abstract Indexes to Deeds at http://olivetreegenealogy.com/can/ont/abstract- indexes.shtml (2 line URL, you must copy and paste BOTH lines into your web browser) You can also start at Land Records in Ontario found at http://www.olivetreegenealogy.com/can/ont/land.shtml There are links provided there for the new pages. The Land Records page provides details of * Free Grants * Land Petitions * The Canada Company * Crown Land Grants * CLRI (Computerized Land Record Index) * Abstract Indexes * Assessment Records * Township Papers and more.. 3. Hello, The information that I have found about my gg grandfather James Johnston is that he arrived in 1827 from Ireland to Ontario at Capt. Wilson's with a ticket for his land. This ticket had the lot and concession number on. What I have never known is how did he obtain this ticket and number. His father also had a ticket for another lot in Gloucester Township. 3. My forays into the srchives of the Times was perpetual. I went there many time with variations on my theme until I hit upon pay dirt. I then presented various key words based upon that information. It was very rewarding as to that case and to many unrelated articles of interest to me. Much of what is shown is free and the lengthy articles that I ordered were only about three dollars. Good luck. Al
