Adele, I do not have your ancestor on a passenger list but in case you don't have the following information I wanted to pass it on to you 1857 Directory of the Province of Ontario James Abernethy, Frontenac, Kingston, proprietor of the Old Country Inn, Wellington St. If you could find your ancestor in an 1842 census (heads of household only) you will find the number of years "living in the Province" That will help you narrow down his arrival in Upper Canada (present day Ontario). However based on your info above, it sounds as if he may have come via USA to Upper Canada. http://ogw.census- sense.com/census.asp?co=Frontenac&year=pre1851 shows you that there is an 1842 census for Kingston (town). Note that this is a 2 line URL and cannot be clicked on. Copy and paste BOTH lines into a browser window (no spaces between) and hit ENTER.
