GB, I had hit the famous "brick wall" with my grandmother's family. I couldn't figure out why they went to Canada before going to the US. Then I learned about the Peterborough migration. Although this sceme is probably too early for your Irish ancestors (most of the settlers came in 1820s from Cork), it is possible that a younger generation came out to follow their uncles & cousins. If your ancestors settled in "Upper Canada", what Ontario was called at the time, you might want to check out the Ontario GenWeb Site or search the Peter Robinson site. http://www.multiboard.com/~spettit/ongenweb/ Ontario GenWeb http://www.rootsweb.com/~onpeterb/probinsn.html Peter Robinson http://www.genealogy.org/~ajmorris/ireland/ireemg/ireemg11.htm The Ship "Elizabeth", one of the ships taking Irish to Canada in 1820's. Christi has given some very useful site URLs for research in early Upper Canada. You might also try http://olivetreegenealogy.com/can/ont/ for hints and research ideas for Upper Canada, as well as many Upper Canada and Ontario databases. For Irish ships to Canada you may want to try my new search engines at http://olivetreegenealogy.com/ships/search_shipscanada.shtml >From these search engines you can search many (265 as of May 24/02) Internet passenger lists (free lists), including The Olive Tree Genealogy (my site) and many others. You can now also search the InGeneas databases both free and fee-based, from my site. This should make your search much easier.
