Excerpt from an ad in the Kingston (Canada West) Chronicle & Gazette, May 4, 1844: ************************************************************** New Steamer FRONTENAC Kingston to Toronto, departs Mondays & Thursdays at 3pm. Touching at Wellington, Cobourg, Port Hope, Darlington, Bond Head, Oshawa, and Windsor. Fares: Cabin 17s 6d., Deck 7s 6d. (Kingston to Toronto) and so in proportion to other ports. ************************************************************** Notes from Ontario Locator for some obscure places: # Port Darlington is listed in present-day Durham County, in both Clarke and Darlington Townships. # Bond Head is in Clarke Township, Durham County; merged with and became Newcastle in 1851 but at some point afterwards became a separate entity again. # Windsor was originally known as Perry's Corners, and was renamed Whitby in 1848. It was located in present-day Whitby Township, Durham County; there was also a Windsor Harbour there which no longer exists. Hope this helps someone; it's enlightening to see that the old Windsor was nowhere near Detroit! Tim Totten Lansing, Michigan
