I have some new info to add to my previous posting for Thomas & Sarah: I now know (from a biography of their doctor son) that they immigrated from "The Emerald Isle" to Canada in 1840. At that time, Thomas would have been about 21 years old, and Sarah was 19. They were not married until after they reached Canada. I also now know that Sarah was from Ulster, Ireland, and it it extremely likely that Thomas was also. Their first child (the doctor) was born near the eastern end of Lake Ontario, Canada, in April 1844. So I think the most likely initial port of landing for them would have been Montreal. Am looking for the ship that carried them in 1840. Diana, I'll keep your WHITEs in mind. Also, are there documented ships carrying soldiers recruited for Britain? What was the normal initial term of enlistment?
