    3. The following article is from a New Brunswick site and refers to The Demerest on which my great grandfather was a passenger. There doesn't appear to be any available information regarding the 23 passengers and crew who were rescued, nor do I find this ship listed anywhere. Query: - If The Demerest was destined for NY, but passengers arrived in NB - where would one look for records and/or information? Would passengers from Demerest be included with the Falcon's? All help would be greatly appreciated. Doreen ARTICLE: An entry in The Ships List, 1847 states: "From Lloyd's List - May 14, 1847: 'From New York, April 20th - The Demerest, Captain Dunker, from Sligo to New York was abandoned 21st ult. in a sinking state in lat 43, long. 39. Crew and passengers saved." >From St. John, NB: "The Falcon, Captain Whyttecombe arrived from Limerick on April 13th, 1847." >From New Brunswick Courier, Saturday, April 17th, 1847: "Tuesday: The Barque Falcon, Captain Whyttecombe, Limerick, 45, owner John Robertson, entered in ballast. On the 21st March fell in with the wreck on the brig Demerest, Captain Bourke from Sligo to New York in a sinking state, having on the morning of the 19th at 2 a.m., lat. 42.57 long. 39.30W while under close reefed topsails, during a sudden hurrican, been hove upon her beam ends the main mast going by the board and carrying away her pumps, and the foremast breaking in three pieces - once below the deck - the stern post also being started and the vessel leaking fast. About noon on the 19th got clear of the wreck of the masts which until that time had been striking the vessel very heavily so as to cause her to make a great quantity of water, rigged the jibbom for a jurymast, but finding the vessel unmanageable and in a sinking state, the rudder being adrift, the master and the crew resolved to abandon her and with the passengers, in all 23 in number, were taken on board the Falcon. The Falcon cleared St. John on May 4th for Bristol with timber and deals."
