Am looking for help to determine how/on what ship my GG-Grandfather arrived in Canada. I have found information that William SCOTT arrived in Canada in 1857 with his wife Ann (HERRING) and three of their five children Emily Ann SCOTT, William SCOTT, Jemina SCOTT. Family lore has it that two of the children, John SCOTT and Maria SCOTT died at sea enroute to Canada from Cornwall, England. Anyone have any suggestions as to where I could start looking? Dear Listers, I am trying to trace the arrival of my ancestors in Canada. Augustus PIMBURY (age 25) and his brother Edwin PIMBURY (age 27) arrived in Melbourne, Australia on 26 August 1855, on board the 'Donald Mackay' from Liverpool. These two brothers then appear in Canada. I do not know if they went back to England and then to Canada or from Australia to Canada. Augustus PIMBURY married Ellen Davis - 10 January 1881 - Victoria, B.C. There is mention of the PIMBURY Brothers settling in Salt Spring Island. Edwin PIMBURY appointed J.P. 26 August 1885 - Nanaimo. I think that at some time their brothers - Phillip & John Gardiner PIMBURY joined them in Canada. In 1875, Augustus - Edwin - John G. - Phillip PIMBURY are all on the voting list of Shawnigan, as Farmers in Cow. District. All are listed in the Cemetery at St. Peter's Anglican, Quamichan. Phillip PIMBURY - 18 August 1885 age 58. John Gardiner PIMBURY - 19 February 1887 age 62. Ellen PIMBURY (Davis) - 14 September 1905 age 67. Edwin PIMBURY - 6 April 1909 age 75. Augustus PIMBURY - 27 June 1912 age 81. I would like to ascertain when theses brothers arrived in Canada and if possible on what ship and from where but I would appreciate any information that anyone could give me on the surname PIMBURY. I appreciate any information however small of insignificant that I can get. Many thanks, Judy in Victoria, Australia.
Hello, I am looking for information on a ship that came from England and landed in Nova Scotia in 1817. My 4g grandparents Ralph and Hannah (Wren) JOHNSON came to Nova Scotia in 1817. I have been unable thus far to find out how they got here. Any help would be most appreciated. Many thanks in advance. Cindy Donovan Nova Scotia
Hi Donald: Do you have any other info on your family in Canada? A province or township ? I looked in the Ontario Cemetary Finding Aid for William Scott and got a list of 377 names. If you can narrow it down a bit, I can look into some things or offer some suggestions at minimum. Cathie --------------------------------- Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! I know that my ancestor, James ABERNETHY (1796-1875) came from Ireland but I don't know his place of origin. His wife was Nancy (aka Agnes) McBRIDE (1796-1878). It is not known whether they came as a married couple or whether they met after the journey. Their first child was born in the U.S. in 1820, the remaining six children were all born in the Kingston, Ontario area between 1821 and 1835. I have not been able to locate James and/or Nancy on any U.S. passenger lists. If anyone could give me any help with locating James on Canadian passenger arrival lists, I'd be eternally grateful. Adele
I think my HAGAN ancestors came to Prince Edward Island on one of the following: Thomas Gelston sailed from Belfast arrived PEI 05/17/1841 139 passengers Margaret Pollock sailed from Belfast arrived PEI 05/17/1841 685 passengers Would any body have passenger lists for either or both of these vessels OR suggestions as to where to look. Thank you. J. Patrick Hagan

Solem, Swiggum & Austheim - Emigration from Norway - SS&A http://www.norwayheritage.com/ships/index.asp ... I find these three ships, Bergen-Quebec in 1854 Brig Condor, Capt. Stranger Bergen May 11 Quebec June 25 Brig Odin, Capt. Bacher Bergen Apr. 24 Quebec July 2 Brig Harald Haarfagre, Capt. Harris Bergen May 3 Quebec July 10 There is a list of Odin male (head of household?) passengers extracted from Morgenbladet (contemporary newspaper) but I don't see a name close to Stokkebø. This might reduce the possible ships to two! 1854 was a huge immigration year. One late May day in New York for instance, "12,471 immigrants were brought into the Quarantine." Even though the St. Lawrence was late opening that year, the summer of 1854 was very hot, which created hardship for the new arrivals, and there was an outbreak of cholera, which claimed a lot of lives, including many Norwegians. This website below has extracted articles from the Windsor Star newspaper. (brown background makes it a little hard to read) The article states "The trek of those ill-fated Norwegians began probably from Norway's Sognefjord region in May 1854" so this could very well be a description of the conditions for your emigrants http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Pointe/7051/cholera1.html follow-up articles http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Pointe/7051/cholera3.html http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Pointe/7051/cholera2.html Sue --
Sorry, I probably should have mentioned that it is believed that he came from the Manchester, England area although was of Irish ancestry. The family is supposed to have gone from Ireland to England....stayed for a year or two (one child was born there) and then moved to Canada in the mid to late 1830's.......maybe! Thanks. Hello fellow listers..... I never thought there would be a list to deal with these 'early' arrivers, but sure appreciate the effort being put in here. Maybe you can give me some direction. This is all I have. "When Thomas BOURNE, Sr. sailed to Canada the trip took three months by sea. During this voyage he was in a shipwreck. They landed on some islands and he lost all his possessions. Among them was a family Bible with all the family records in it. It is unknown when they arrived in Canada, but is thought to be about 1836. He settled near Gananoque, near Brockville. Later he moved to a farm near Newboyne, Rideau Lake." The above is taken from information written in the 1920's and 30's about Thomas BOURNE. He was evidently a fairly well educated man for the time as this same source reveals that he taught school, also had a course in medicine from some natives (?) which he practiced in the vicitity. His wife and children apparently followed him to Canada the following year. If anyone can provide any information and/or direction as to how to search for him, I'd greatly appreciate it. Many thanks, Bonnie Menzer Barnes Perth, Western Australia
I am looking for information on the following ships the my William Bailey family came from Ireland to the USA on. The first ship was called the "Bluenose" and was sailing for Great Britain. It came from Ireland to St. John, NB, Canada in 1827. The William Bailey family left St. John, NB, Canada and sailed to the port of New York aboard the "Brigatine Hartford", Capt. Thomas Pearce, Commanding. They got into the port of NY on 19 Aug. 1828. I do not know what they did in St. Johns betweem ships, but would like to find out. Thanks for all help with pictures and information.

Hello All, Can anyone recommend where I might find information/pictures of the steamship Ontario that sailed from Portland, Maine, to Liverpool, UK in 1881? Thank you for your help. Best regards, Tom Beggs
Have been trying to find my ancestors on a passenger list hoping that I could discover more family members. My grandfather, Daniel Marron Clark(e) was born at sea in April, 1833. I have just discovered that his parents' names were John and Mary. The family is supposed to have sailed from Dublin but I don't know where they entered Canada. Daniel was a surviving twin, the other one buried at sea. Evidently the Captain of the ship was very kind to them and Daniel's middle name "Marron" was for the Captain. I've never heard of any other siblings but I'm hoping to find a larger family. Has anyone run across a Captain Marron in this time period? Jeanne in Tennessee.

Greetings. I would dearly love to find some information re a ship that my ancestors were shipwrecked on off of Nova Scotia 1818. They were ship wrecked off Nova Scotia on 02-October-1818. Their sailing vessel was blown off course by a great storm in the Atlantic Ocean, off the coast of Nova Scotia. After a great deal of difficulty the passengers were rescued and taken to Halifax. The "Acadian", a Halifax weekly paper, reported on October 10, 1818; "The Brig "Fame" (The Captain being; Captain Hardy) from Belfast, Ireland, for this place, out 49 days with 114 passengers went on shore Sunday (02/Oct/1818) about 11:00 o'clock at Cole Harbour. Passengers and crew saved." Any insights would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Regards, R.W. Rick Redmond Chester, UK (formerly of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada) rredmond@btopenworld.com
