Hello: I want to know on which ship my ancestors came to Canada from Ireland. Peter got married in the parish of St. Joachim, Pointe Claire, (Montreal), Quebec, Canada, May 9th, 1827. Patrick, his brother, was present and sign the register. It is said that they are sons of Patrick Lynch and Ellen Walsh from Wexford Co., Ireland. They do not appear in the "Catalog of Catholic immigrants from the British Isles before 1825. So, I conclude that they arrived in Canada between 1825 and May 1827. Thank you in advance for your help Jacqueline
Is there a place that would show the names of the passengers on the ship Avon that went from Ireland to Quebec? Thanks Mary

Looking for information on the route and ship that was taken by Joseph LUTTRELL born in Ireland (do not know where in Ireland) in 1840 to Canada. He is listed on the 1901 Canadian Cenus as a resident of Montreal. His wife's name was Elizabeth on the 1901 census. He had a brother named Richard Luttrell and Alexander Luttrell. He states that he immigrated to Canada in 1853. Since he was only 13, I suspect he did not travel to Canada alone, but may have come with his brothers who also resided in Montreal and had a biscuit making factory. The biscuit company was called W&J, bakers & confectioners in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Barb Henderson (Luttrell Family Researcher) Hamilton Ontario Canada

David Kean/Kane of Campbellton/Restigouche m to Sarah McDonald before 1850 7. Michael Kean/Kane of Campbellton/Restigouche m. to Brigett Hardford Mar 31, 1845 Thanks Wendy Kean
I am searching for information on Daniel MCCALLION, b. ca1808 in Ireland and his wife, Margaret (BRENNAN), b. ca1811 Ireland. MCCALLIONS are first mentioned in Kings County, NS with the birth of their son James in 1833. Other children include Mary, Ellen, Daniel, and Thomas. Some of the names mentioned as friends (may have emigrated with them) are John CONLON, DELANCY, STRONACH, MORROW (James and Ned), GORMAN, Adelbert HUDGINS, John GOULD, and Dennis O'LEARY. Anyone researching some of these names may have information on my McCALLIONS without realizing it. Wish to know what route they may have taken to arrive there and from what part of Ireland they came. TIA Judy Norton, MA
I'm searching for information on Daniel HERATY born about 1802 in Doon/Dooncastle, Parish of Aghagower, Westport, County Mayo, Ireland. He died February 19, 1875 in Mitchell, Sheboygan Co., Wisconsin. He married Bridget FLANNERY, born about 1806 in Ireland. They had the following children: 6 sons who died before emigration: Martin, died during emigration1846: Thomas, born Dec. 11, 1836 in Ireland: Mary born 1836/38 in Ireland: Catherine, born 1843. The Heraty's emigrated around 1846 on the ship Manchester of Cork from Liverpool to Montreal. With them were Uncles Thomas and James and their families. >From a diary entry of Thomas Heraty born 1836: 1916 June 5 Mon Another 5th of June. In 1846, my father, my mother, two sisters and my brother, Martin, together with my Uncles, Thomas and James Heraty and their families, sailed from Liverpool, England for America in the good sailing ship Manchester of Cork with Captain Brown. After a voyage of 4 weeks and 3 days, landed in Montreal, where my brother Martin died from ship fever and was buried there and where Anthony Moran was drowned and buried. If you have any information on the passenger lists or ship Manchester of Cork, or this family, OR where I could find this information, please contact me. Thanks in advance, Kay R
The lightbulb just came on, this is in addition to the posting I just submitted: Perhaps Thomas TOTTEN's (1819?-1881) date of immigration to Canada can be narrowed down a little further: his 1881 death record lists his parents as James & Ann TOTTEN residing in Ireland, which suggests that he was old enough to immigrate without them; then, assuming a minimum age of 13 would narrow down Thomas's immigration to Canada to between 1833 and 1843. I should also mention a little more about his future wife Sarah SPROAT (1820-1906): she was quite independent and business-minded, possibly having business/shipping ties with SPROATs in Scotland. For example, in the 1870 Michigan census, they are living in a tiny village; but one of the daughters is keeping house, while Sarah's occupation is listed as "Grocery" and her net worth is more than twice that of her husband (a farmer). This was quite unusual back then! She was definitely the Scotch in my Scots-Irish background, but I have as yet been unable to connect them with the prominent SPROATs of Scotland (there was a Robert SPROAT who in the 1860's I believe built & sent ships out of Scotland to Australia). Such a great list - it should be subtitled "I Feel Your Pain", as I'm sure others know of the difficultly of researching ancestors who lived only in "wild lands" and seemingly avoided the civil servants' record books! I am looking for the ship(s) that carried these two to Canada 1825 to 1843; they probably originated from Ulster (now Northern Ireland): Thomas TOTTEN b. 4/22/1819? in Ireland, and Sarah SPROAT b. 10/31/1820 in Ireland or Scotland; from a 1926 letter about them: "[they] came from Ireland when young people to Canada, got aquainted there and were married; lived there sometime; the children were all born there; there were thirteen. [Thomas]'s occupation was farming rented farms..." Some of their children, all born in Canada West: 1) James b. 4/5/1844; the letter says born in Waterloo, but some 20th century records say Kingston 2) Mary Elizabeth b. 7/14/1845; living with husband in 1871 in Strathroy 3) Thomas, Jr. b. 9/14/1846 in Hamilton 7) William M. b. 3/19/1855 in Toronto 13) Alfred Edward b. 4/1866 By 1866, all except Mary had moved to western Michigan. This is about all I currently know. Searching in Canada, Ireland, and Scotland has been largely fruitless, because as "a farmer of rented farms", they moved so much. However, there is one gnat of a clue: William was the last to pass away, and his death record states his mother's maiden name as Sarah MERICRAFT (possibly MERICROFT). This name does not appear to be a common surname, nor even an Irish townland (as MERI - CROFT). Two other unexplored possibilities occur: that MERICRAFT/MERICROFT was a kind ship captain, or the "master" in the case that Sarah was an indentured servant. Tim Totten Lansing, Michigan, USA

Ann > Bennett Mix Ann, There are few passenger lists before 1865 but you may still find him. Please see my article at http://olivetreegenealogy.com/articles/immcanpre1865.shtml I think you need to narrow the time frame for immigration though. That's a 26 year time period (b 1810 Scotland, in Upper Canada 1836) The Coburg Star was in existence as early as 1831 (possibly earlier). Why not check there to see if there are any notices re your family? I have a link to available newspapers in Ontario (dates of publication and where they can be accessed) at my pages on Newspaper Resources at http://olivetreegenealogy.com/can/ont/ Select NEWSPAPER from the menu on this page. I checked on your behalf in the published 1831-1846 Death Notice entries for the Coburg Star and found the following: 1 July 1835. In this village [Coburg], on Sat. morning last, John, son of John Bennett aged 7 years and 7 months. I would check for more entries - arrivals? births? more deaths/obits? More ideas for you - check 1842 census (if there is one for this area) to find the number of years the family had been in Ontario. That will narrow the time frame if you find it. Also check land records - if John was a farmer he would likely have bought land almost immediately after arrival. That's another way to narrow the time of arrival. Adele, I do not have your ancestor on a passenger list but in case you don't have the following information I wanted to pass it on to you 1857 Directory of the Province of Ontario James Abernethy, Frontenac, Kingston, proprietor of the Old Country Inn, Wellington St. If you could find your ancestor in an 1842 census (heads of household only) you will find the number of years "living in the Province" That will help you narrow down his arrival in Upper Canada (present day Ontario). However based on your info above, it sounds as if he may have come via USA to Upper Canada. http://ogw.census- sense.com/census.asp?co=Frontenac&year=pre1851 shows you that there is an 1842 census for Kingston (town). Note that this is a 2 line URL and cannot be clicked on. Copy and paste BOTH lines into a browser window (no spaces between) and hit ENTER. I am searching for information on Francis WALLACE, born 11 Feb 1784 in Ulster, Ireland and Sarah ALEXANDER, his wife, born about 1800 in Ulster, Ireland. They emmigrated to either the U.S. or Canada before December 1820. their first child was born in Perth, Lanark, Ontario, Canada at that time. I have found a Hugh ALEXANDER who emigrated from Newry, Ireland to New York, on April 18, 1803 on the ship "Margaret" at the age of 29. There is also a Jane ALEXANDER, 22; Jane ALEXANDER, 3; and Sarah ALEXANDER, 2 (which would be about the same age as my Sarah ALEXANDER at the time) on the same ship but I have not been able to connect them so far or find them in Ontario. I would appreciate any assistance I could get. THANKS! Charles C. Rich
