Michael Nealon came from County Limerick and James Toner from County Tyrone. It has been suggested that one or another voyaged on the Camperdown of Hull and landed at Quebec. The family of John Scott came from Selkirkshire area to settle in Wellington County, Ontario, in 1847. Any information or suggestions are welcome! 3. Hi everyone, Tomorrow I leave for a one week holiday (long overdue). I'm really looking forward to my break, but will miss the list! While I'm gone, Sue Swiggum, co-webmaster of http://www.theshipslist.com and listowner of TheShipsList mailing list has kindly agreed to run two of my ships list for me. Sue is a busy woman as well as an immigration/shipping/passenger list expert, and I'm very grateful she has agreed to give up her time to monitor the lists. Sue has full powers to unsub or moderate anyone who isn't behaving, so please listen if she has to speak up. I doubt that will happen as all of us here on the list are very well behaved! :-) Please don't send Sue questions about technical things re the list - wait til I get back (Sept. 16th). I don't want to overuse her generousity as I may need her help another time. :-) Oh, and for tips re using the lists (subbing, unsubbing, posting, etc) please see http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/other/Immigration/US-SHIPSLISTS- PRE1820.html for those on US-SHIPSLISTS-PRE1820 If the 2-line URL won't work for you, go to http://olivetreegenealogy.com/articles/immusapre1820.shtml http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/intl/CAN/CAN-SHIPSLISTS- PRE1865.html for those on CAN-SHIPSLISTS-PRE1865 If the 2-line URL won't work for you, go to http://olivetreegenealogy.com/articles/immcanpre1865.shtml Have fun and find lots of ancestors while I'm gone! Maureen Hi Maureen There are hundreds of online lists and links to lists going to Canada at Olive Tree Genealogy's ships Passenger Lists online for Canada http://olivetreegenealogy.com/ships/tocanp01.shtml There are also search engines to search various databases of ships to Canada at http://olivetreegenealogy.com/ships/search_shipscanada.shtml They include most ships lists on the 'net (going to Canada) and the InGeneas databases (2 of them) for immigration to Canada 19th and 20th Centuries. Before 1865 shipping companies were not required by the government to retain their passenger manifests. This means passenger lists may not be available for the time period of interest to you. There are some passenger lists archived at the NAC (National Archives of Canada) for the time period 1817-1831. The NAC also holds scattered records for the years 1732 and 1749 to 1760 for immigrants who sailed from France. There are some passenger lists which were kept by shipping agents in the originating country. For example, the Passenger Books of J & J Cooke, Shipping Agents gives sailings from Londonderry to Philadelphia PA, Quebec, and St. John New Brunswick from 1847 to 1871. Olive Tree has some passenger lists from these records online, and will be adding more as time permits. There are also the William McCorkell & Co. lists but they begin in 1863 and end in 1871. The Hawke Papers, letterbooks of Chief Emigrant Agent Anthony B. Hawke are also available. They cover the years 1831 to 1892. See http://www.archives.gov.on.ca/english/interloan/hawkes.htm There are also some special collections housed in Ontario University Libraries, and more details on those can be found in my Immigration to Canada before 1865 article online at http://olivetreegenealogy.com/articles/immcanpre1865.shtml Good luck! I too was looking for the same time frame even after I was told this, I found none. You could try the Quebec Family History Society or the Canadian Museum of Civilzation www.civilisations.ca The another way to search is from the other end if you know where they came from. 3. The register kept by the Anglican Travelling Missionaries for 1847 has many Grosse Isle entries, mostly burials but some baptisms. The priest, Armine Mountain, was diligent about recording the name of the ship, parish of origin and - when available - the parents' names of the person who was being buried. This is a possible source of information for those whose ancestors came to Quebec from Britain and Ireland in 1847. Families left their deceased loved ones at Grosse Isle and travelled further to found their lives in the new land. The information is to found on microfilm no. 138/10 available from the Archives nationales du Québec. 1. [CanShipsPre1865] Survivors from the Atlantic, 1840
    2. Harry Dodsworth
    3. One way to get your name noted pre-1865 is to have been shipwrecked. Atlantic was an unlucky name for a ship - this is the third I know of to have been wrecked. Montreal Gazette, June 4, 1840 [datelined Quebec June 2] WRECK OF THE ATLANTIC WITH A GENERAL CARGO FOR QUEBEC The brig Hero, Millar, which arrived yesterday from St. John's, Newfoundland, brought eighteen passengers from the wreck of the Atlantic, of which event we have collected the following particulars. The new bark Atlantic, of Perth, (284 tons) George Morton, master, from Dundee to Quebec with a general cargo, ran on shore near Cape St. Francis, Newfoundland, at half past eleven o'clock, on the night of Tuesday, 5th May. The passengers, twenty seven in number, and the crew had a miraculous escape but all succeeded in getting ashore with the exception of a boy named Hogg, who was undoubtedly drowned. From a Newfoundland paper brought by Capt. Millar of the Hero with a perusal of which we have been favoured, we learn that the passengers of the Atlantic arrived in St. John's, the capital of the island, in a very destitute condition, and appeals were being made to the charitable public, to secure them assistance of which they stood in need. Scarcely an article of clothing was saved from the wreck - the loss of the ship having been almost the work of an instant, and the circumstances superceding every consideration but the preservation of life; many got on the shore as they rushed from their beds, on being aroused from the shock. His Excellency the Governor of Newfoundland promptly and humanely sent to their assistance, on being informed of their situation. They reached St. John's, from the wreck of the Atlantic at Pouch Cove, overland; not, however, without much difficulty; and some of them have sufferred injuries in the awful dangers which they have providentially escaped. The following is a list of the passengers, who have arrived in Quebec, from the wreck of the Atlantic. We have no doubt that the national Charitable Societies of this city, on whom they may have claims, will immediately take into consideration the situation of such of them as stand in need of relief. Thomas Rutherford; Peter Macfarlane, engineer; Alexander Mackenzie, currier; Donald M'Gregor with a wife and three children, labourer; Benjamin Hogg, labourer, with a wife and three children; Henry Burgie, farrier[1], with a wife and one child; James Robertson, merchant; John Duff, a boy; total 18, the others, nine in number, remained in St. John's. Montreal Gazette, July 2. HARBOUR GRACE, NFLD, May 20. The body of the unfortunate boy Hogg, [snipped], drifted ashore last week at Holyrood, when it was taken up by the humane people and decently interred. 1) It is unclear whether the occupation is farrier, furrier or farmer! Hi Lois, Lorine had suggested Colonial Office 384 beginning 1817, and this might be a clue. On the commercial site inGeneas http://www.ingeneas.com/ingeneas/index.html several Bradley names show for 1817 in passenger and/or land records. One Abraham, one Henry, one Jacob, one James, three John/Jonathan, two Laurence?, one Richard, two Samuel, two William, but no Thomas. I didn't find Susannah, but there was a Hannah Keyes in 1817. It is a commercial site, so details are lacking from the searchable index. Description: LIST OF FAMILIES PREPARING TO EMIGRATE. Typical records in this document contain the following information: only heads of families are listed by names and occupations are listed for them; the total number of people in the family is listed. Not sure if this is from CO 384, but possibly it is. Sue TheShipsList http://theshipslist.com/ --

Go to http://olivetreegenealogy.com/articles/immcanpre1865.shtml There are very few useful immigration records prior to 1865. Until that year, shipping companies were not required by the government to retain their passenger manifests. There are a few lists pertaining to British-subsidized immigration schemes for the period 1817-1831 and these are available from the National Archives of Canada in Ottawa but that is outside your time frame. There is a Miscellaneous Immigration Index to some records and it is available for consultation in the NAC Reference Room. It relates mostly to immigrants from the British Isles to Quebec and Ontario between the years 1801 and 1849. There is also C.O. 384: This group is correspondence of the Secretary of State on immigration for 1817-1857. There are 60 reels of microfilm for Vols 1-99. There are lists of immigrants, mainly Irish, and entry books re immigration, and assisted emigration to British North America. There is more, it can be found at the URL I gave you above. His wife Catherine came later with their two small children, Michael ( b 1815) and Catherine.(b. 1819). I understand that Timothy was granted land by the British for fighting in the Napolionic War.
