    1. [CAN-QC-ROUYN-NORANDA] Canadians who fought during WW I - Petition
    2. Gary Boivin
    3. Another Administrator, Murray Pletsch, posted the following on other lists. I asked him if I could forward this... ******************************************************** Dear Listers: For some listers, the Canadians who fought during WW I are three or four generations in the past and they are the ancestors a lot of us are still tracing in our Family Trees. There is a formal Petition online at http://www.dominion.ca/petition which can be signed by Canadians to make a recommendation to the Prime Minister, to approve a State Funeral for the last surviving veteran of WW I. I had no qualms in signing this petition, as it allowed me an opportunity to be part of this timely effort to properly recognize and honour our ancestors who survived this horrible War and those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their Family and Country. "We will remember". Bye for now.........Murray Pletsch Gravemarker Gallery - http://nocgg.maddoc.net Nostalgia Gallery - http://nocggh.maddoc.net

    3. Here's another little something that could make our gr-gr-grandchildren's genealogy research a lot easier. Women can list themselves in their maiden name. Think how much easier that will make it in the future. And I know you all have heard about answering YES to allowing access to census data in 92 years --- and we all know how important that could be to our gr-gr-grandchildren who pick up our favourite hobby. (I am talking about genealogy) <grin>

    3. There are a few new researchers joining us and I'd like to take this opportunity to welcome them and to offer a pointer that would facilitate their research efforts... And to also remind some of our regulars who may have forgotten. When you do send questions about your ancestors try to include as much information as possible - forward or backward generations, time span and localities. Remember that we are talking about a close knit group that followed traditional naming practices and usually married locally. So in the mid 1800's you could have 3 Jean Baptiste BOIVINs married to 3 Madeleine DAOUSTs all in the same village. It would make our job easier if you supplied us with as much info as you already have. Many of us have church registries and can trace back generations -- and there are hundreds of church registries. You could even start listing back from your parents or grandparents because that info you probably have in detail and it would tell us which resource books to start looking in.

    3. I am looking for info on my grandparents,Earnest Lapointe and Grace nee Beauvais. I know they are buried in the Catholic graveyard in Noranda. Hope some day to visit there, and get a picture. Edmund Lapointe, their son is also buried there. I am hoping there are Lapointe connections in Rouyn-Noranda and would be thrilled to hear from them. All I know about Earnest is that he was born in 1883, in the Penetanguishene/St Joseph's Island area. Somehow he ended up in Tupper lake NY,where he married Grace. Then they lived in North Cobalr, New Liskeard and finally in Rouyn-Noranda. They had 3 sons, who were all born in Tupper Lake. Earnest had several jobs, bartender and salesman for a tailor. Grace
