    3. Walter J. Lafford, Concord - Veteran of World War II and Korean War November 11. 2004 8:00AM Walter J. Lafford, 86, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004, at Pleasant View Center. A memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Peter's Church in Concord. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Penacook. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Memorial Giving Program, 360 Route 101, Unit 8, Bedford 03110-5032; or to the charity of one's choice. Bennett Funeral Home in Concord is in charge of the arrangements. ~~~ He was born in Keene, the son of Joseph and Mabel M. (Bouchie) Lafford. He attended schools in Keene and Medford, Mass. He served in the U. S. Army for 22 years, retiring as a Master Sergeant in 1966. He received the bronze star for combat in Germany during World War II and also served in the Korean War. He was an investigator for the U.S. Army Department of Intelligence and also for the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY. He drove a special education bus for Merrimack Valley School District and retired from the New Hampshire Department of Employment Security in 1980. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. He was also a member of St. John the Evangelist Church. He enjoyed traveling and bowling and was an avid cribbage player and Red Sox fan. He is survived by two sons, Walter J. Lafford II of Buena Vista, Colo., and Richard M. Lafford of Dansville, N.Y.; one daughter, Bonnie M. Beaulieu of Pembroke; two grandchildren; one brother, James Lafford of Dracut, Mass.; and four sisters, Katherine Davis and Theresa MacKinaw of Concord, Margaret Hoyt of Penacook and Blanche Bells of Portsmouth. He was predeceased by his first wife, Ruth A. Lafford in 1980.
