PAUL HARRY MERCER SR. - Newport 01:00 AM EST on Saturday, November 6, 2004 PAUL HARRY MERCER SR., 74, of 195 Admiral Kalbfus Rd., died Thursday at Newport Hospital. He was the husband of Margaret (Pincince) Mercer. Born in Piedmont, W.V., on April 1, 1930, he was a son of the late Ewell Lee and Mary Blanche (Shank) Mercer. A 30-year veteran of the Navy, Mr. Mercer served in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars, retiring in 1978 as a chief petty officer first class. He then worked as a maintenance man at Rolling Green Village for 11 years, and at the former Sheraton Islander for 7 years. He was a communicant of St. Joseph Church. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Paul Harry Mercer Jr., and a daughter, Theresa Tertinek, both of Newport; a brother, Charles Mercer of Lenoir City, Tenn.; and seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The funeral service and burial will be private.
