    2. PLATTSBURGH — Valeda C. Kavanaugh, 90, of Palmer Street, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2007, at her home, surrounded by her family. She was born in Plattsburgh on Sept. 2, 1916, daughter of the late John B. and Agnes O. (Bouvier) Light. Valeda was a graduate of St. Peter's High School in 1935 and Champlain Valley Hospital School of Nursing in 1938. She was an operating room supervisor at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh for many years, retiring in 1979. Valeda was a member of CVPH Nurses Association, a member of St. Peter's Parish in Plattsburgh, where she belonged to St. Peter's Altar Rosary Society, and a member of the American Diabetes Association. She enjoyed her family, being a homemaker and traveling. Valeda married William F. Kavanaugh of Springfield, Mass., at St. Peter's Church in Plattsburgh in 1942; he passed away Aug. 11, 1999. Valeda is survived by four children, J. Michael Kavanaugh and his wife, Susan, of Clifton Park, Richard T. Kavanaugh and his wife, Christine, of Holiday, Fla., Kathryn Nowak of Cheektowaga, and Mary Beth Kavanaugh and her husband, Allen Gross of San Francisco, Ca.; two brothers, Napoleon "Nap" Light and his wife, Theresa, of Peru, and Dr. Alfred Light and his wife, Ella, of Plattsburgh; three sisters, Yvonne Herkalo of Plattsburgh, Bernadette Dalton of Peru, and Jeanne Farrington and her husband, Charles, of Chazy; two sisters-in-law, Lois Light of Bray's Island, S.C., and Honey Light of Plattsburgh; three grandchildren, Megan Kavanaugh, Sean Kavanaugh and John Nowak; many nieces, nephews and her many close friends. Valeda was pre-deceased by her parents; her husband; a son, Paul Kavanaugh; a daughter, Susan Kavanaugh; two brothers, Maynard Light and Andre Light; and two sisters, Mildred Kirk and her husband, Ben, and Anita Lemieux and her husband, Jerry; brothers-in-law Andy Herkalo, Bob Dalton, Ray Dwyer; and a sister-in-law, Frances Light. Calling hours will be today, Jan. 8, 2007, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St., Plattsburgh. Members of St. Peter's Altar Rosary Society are asked to meet this afternoon at 3 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2007, from St. Peter's Church in Plattsburgh at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery in Plattsburgh. Donations in Valeda's memory may be made to the Nursing Scholarship Fund at SUNY Plattsburgh, St. Peter's Church Building Fund or Masses may be offered in her memory.
