Fortier, 81, of 72 Gill St., Auburn, died Wednesday, Jan. 15, at the dYouville Pavilion, following a short illness. Born in Lewiston on July 25, 1921, he was the son of Odilon and Rose Anne Dallaire Fortier. Educated in local schools, he was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater. On Nov. 28, 1941, he was married to the former Jeannette Levasseur, who passed away in 1995. He worked as a welder at Bath Iron Works for many years, retiring at the age of 68, and he spent many years raising, training and racing harness horses. Survivors include a son, Richard of Wales; two daughters, Sandra Levesque of Auburn and Jeanne and husband Robert Caron of Lewiston; a brother, Lucien of Auburn; two sisters, Rita Caron of Auburn and Lucienne Latouche of Sabattus; four grandchildren, Scott Levesque of Auburn, Jaimey and wife Denise Caron of Portland, Randy and wife Heather Caron of Portland, and Stacey Caron of Palm Springs, Calif.; and two great-grandsons, Tyler and Kyle Caron of Portland. Besides his wife of 54 years, he was predeceased by three brothers, Lionel, Joseph, and Archie.
