He was born in Woonsocket, R.I., and worked as a painter and wallpaper hanger. He was a World War II veteran, an avid bowler and a Baptist. He is survived by his wife, Jeanette Fortier; son Dr. Lucien Fortier of Overland Park, Kan.; daughters Blanche Avunen of Tampa, Ann Coutu of Archer and Lorraine Blais of Alachua; brother Marcel Fortier of Massachusetts; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Arrangements by Williams-Thomas Funeral Home. The Gainesville Sun June 11, 2004 Jeannette T. Fortier of Gainesville died Thursday in Inverness. She was 79. Mrs. Fortier was born in Woonsocket, R.I., and moved to Gainesville in 1974. She was a homemaker. She she was a Baptist, and enjoyed gardening and bowling. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lucien E. Fortier Sr. Survivors include daughters Blanche Havunen of Inverness, Ann Coutu of Archer and Lorraine Blais of Alachua; a son, Dr. Lucien Fortier Jr. of Overland Park, Kan.; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
