SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. Eunice Laura (Tufts) Maynard, a lifelong resident of South Burlington, Vt., died in St. Albans, Vt., on Jan. 3, 2007. She was born in Chester, Vt., on Jan. 15, 1916, the daughter of Jerome and Phoebe Tufts of Springfield, Vt. Eunice's mother brought her to Burlington at the age of 5 where Eunice was placed in an orphanage on Shelburne Road. At the age of 13, she went to Kurn Hattin Homes in Saxton River, Vt., which was one of the happiest times of Eunice's life. She graduated from Burlington High School in 1935. Eunice worked at Fassetts Bakery, Elizabeth Lund Home and Lennie's Grinders. She was an avid crafter and flea marketer in Charlotte, Vt. On May 4, 1936, Eunice married Hermon "Tot" Joseph Maynard of Burlington in St. Anthony Church. Hermon predeceased her on Sept. 28, 2000, after 64 years of marriage. Eunice is survived by two children, H. Philip Maynard Sr. and his wife Nancy of Plattsburgh, N.Y., and Merrilyne R. (Maynard) Palmer and her husband A. Keith of St. Albans, Vt.; eight grandchildren, H. Philip Maynard Jr. and his special friend Lou, Paul and his friend John, Patrick and his wife Rose, Peter and his wife Penny, Paula and her husband Richard Nephews, Perry and his wife Lisa, Lyn-Ann (Palmer) and her husband Randy Mayhew and Laurie Palmer; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great - grandchildren. Eunice is also survived by her sister-in-law, Claire Delorme; and brother-in-law, William Maynard; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 13 brothers and sisters and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Eunice's family would like to thank the staff at Holiday House for their kindness and special care given to our mom and nana. Visiting hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5, in the Boucher and Pritchard Funeral Home, 85 N. Winooski Ave., Burlington, Vt.
