Fortier, age 88 Years, 11 Months, 13 Days, of Whitehall, PA, and formerly of Chicopee, MA and Granby, MA, passed away on Tuesday, August 28, 2001 in Fellowship Manor in Whitehall, PA, where Rene was a resident for many years. Rene was the husband of Rena M. (Hebert) Fortier. Rene and Rena were married on September 7, 1936 and would have celebrated their 65 Wedding Anniversary on September 7, 2001. Rene Fortier was born on September 15, 1912 in Fall River, MA, and was the son of the late Arthur and Maria (Kerouac) Fortier. Rene Fortier was employed by the former Hammermill Paper Co., now known as International Paper Co., in MA, for many years before retiring. Rene Fortier was a member of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Roman Catholic Church in Whitehall, PA and Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church in Granby, MA. Rene Fortier is survived by his wife, Rena M. (Hebert) Fortier, his daughter, Judith A. Schwentner of Northampton, PA, wife of the late George M. Schwentner, Jr., who passed away on Sunday, June 7, 1998, two sons, Dennis R. husband of Valeria Fortier of Cumming, GA, and Roger P. husband of Susan Fortier of Spring Grove, PA, twelve grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Rene Fortier was predeceased in life, not only by his parents and son-in-law, but also by a son, Kenneth A. Fortier. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Rene Fortier on Saturday, September 1, 2001 at 10:00 AM in St. Elizabeth of Hungary Roman Catholic Church, located at 618 Fullerton Avenue, Whitehall, PA. Family and friends, of Rene may call on Saturday morning from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM in St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Fr. Eric J. Gruber, Assistant Pastor of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, will celebrate the Mass for Rene. Another Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Rene on Wednesday, September 5, 2001 at 10:00 AM in Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church, located at 256 State St., Granby, MA, followed by interment in Precious Blood Catholic Cemetery in S. Hadley, MA. Family and friends of Rene may also call on Tuesday evening, September 4, 2001 form 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM in Ryder Funeral Home, located in Granby, MA. Fr. John Shea, Pastor of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, will celebrate the Mass for Rene. Funeral arrangements for Whitehall area are being conducted by Kohut Funeral Home, located at 950 N.
