    3. Melvyn Lyon Marks Pharmacist, Volunteer Melvyn Lyon Marks, 74, a pharmacist, died of congestive heart failure Dec. 11 at his Silver Spring home. Mr. Marks worked as a pharmacist at several locations Washington, including Rodman's, the Sheraton Park Hotel and Sibley Memorial Hospital as well as Walter Reed Army Medical Center's pharmacy, from which he retired in 1982. He was born in Montreal and moved to New York when he was 16. He joined the Air Force several years later, serving during the Korean War. He married and moved to Washington, where he graduated from George Washington University and became a pharmacist. He was the first president of the D.C. Board of Pharmacy in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Mr. Marks volunteered extensively for organizations that included the Montgomery County ombudsman's office and the Rock Creek Swim Club. He designed patches for the Amateur Athletic Union swim team and played Santa Claus at hospitals and community centers. He was a Mason, past commander of a Disable American Veterans chapter and past president of the Northwest Shriners Club. He was member of Jewish War Veterans and was a clown with the Kena Shrine Temple. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Alberta Smith Marks of Silver Spring; two children, Scott Marks of Montclair, VA., and Pamela Breault of Jacksonville, Fla.; and five grandchildren.
