Fr. Vincent Karatunga officiating. Organist was Elaine Larochelle. Soloist was Suzette Riou. Readers were: Prayers: Phil Elder and Beatrice Fortier; Service: Danielle Robertson and Phil Elder. Crossbearer was Réjean Fortier. Altar servers were Jenelle Fortier and Chloé Hoiland. Pallbearers were Gérald Fortier, Albert Fortier, Michel Fortier, Marc Fortier, Damien Robertson and Robert Lalonde. Interment was at Zenon Park Cemetery. The family members express their gratitude for everyone's kindness and invited everyone to join them at the community hall following the committal service for a time fellowship. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice or Notre Dame De La Nativité ~ Roof Fund. Jean Arthur Fortier was born in St. Boniface, Manitoba on June 21, 1914 to Rose Anna (Choquette) and Joseph Fortier. Jean was the eighth of eighteen children. He married Claire Hudon in 1935. They had three children: Laurent, Jacqueline and Louise. Their focus in life was to make a success of their family farm and raise their family in a loving home. Jean was very active in farm matters. He was councilor for the RM of Connaught for several years where he was instrumental in improving conditions in the area. Jean was a member of the Credit Union Board for a number of years. He is an Honorary Life Member of the Knights of Columbus. After Claire's passing in 1982 Jean retired. Jean married Leone Chometsky. They continued to spend winters in Arizona. As Jean's dementia became more severe, he moved into the Pineview Lodge in Nipawin over two years ago where he passed away September 26th, 2007. Jean leaves to mourn his second wife Leone, his children: Laurent (Marie Paule), Jacqueline (Bob Pollock), Louise (David Robertson), his grandchildren: Gerald (Sandi), Albert (Kathy), Michel (Beatrice), Marc, Monique (Phil Elder); Evelyn, Louanne, Michael; Danielle (Erik Huizing) and Damien. There are also twelve great grandchildren whom he loved dearly. Also left to mourn are some of Jean's siblings: Rose Brisebois, Irene Sebastian, Emma (Leon) Dubé, Agnes (Lucien) St. Amand, Paul (Estelle) Fortier, Jeanne Elder; all his nieces and nephews who were so important to him. Also left to mourn John's passing are Leone's family: Dave (Muriel) Chometsky, Mary Chometsky and their sons, daughters and grandson.
