Fortier, age 84, son of the late Dr. Edward and Viola (Payton) Fortier passed away November 17, 2000, in Fairbanks, Alaska. A memorial service was hels at Our Lady Of Guadalupe Parish in Anchorage, Alaska, on November 27. Edward was born in Little Falls, Minnesota, and graduated from Little Falls High School and the University of Minnesota School of Journalism. He was inducted into the U. S. Army in 1942 and served in the Army Counter-Intelligence Corps in Alaska until his discharge. He was editor of the Alaskan Sportsman magazine for 10 years and was the Alaskan correspondent for the National Observer. He contributed articles to the Minnesota Volunteer. In non-journalistic pursuits, Edward served for a period as director of Alaskan Territorial Civil Defense, administrator of the Anchorage Providence Hospital, and as a member of the first Alaskan Big Game Guide Board. Survivors include two grandsons, Henry Tiffany IV and wife Clover, and Edwin F. Tiffany; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margaret; daughter. Diane; and two brothers, Dr. Rene' Fortier and David Fortier.
