He worked for the New North Citizens Council in Springfield. He was born in Springfield, and was a longtime resident here. He was a graduate of Westfield State College, and attended Springfield College. He was a communicant of the Sacred Heart Church, and belonged to the Dante Club. He leaves his parents, Thomas and Andrea (Magni) Fortier of Feeding Hills; two brothers, Thomas Jr. of Windsor Conn., and Michael in Italy; a sister, Marie Fortier of Feeding Hills; his paternal grandmother, Helen (Shea) Fortier of Westfield. The funeral will be Monday morning at Toomey-O'Brien Funeral Home and the church, with burial in Springfield Street Cemetery. The calling hours are Sunday afternoon and evening, and memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Hope Community, in care of the Rev.
