Emmanuel Antonio "Frenchy" Couture was born April 6, 1921, in Thetford Mines, Quebec, Canada, to Joseph-Nazaire and Rosemarie-Antoinette Couture. He passed peacefully on the morning of Sunday, Jan. 6, 2008, in hospice care at the V.A. Medical Center, Detroit. Mr. Couture was a descendent of the Master Carpenter in Quebec, Guillaume Couture (wife Anne Emard). He married Eleanore Kaiponen (born in Atlantic Mine) on July 5, 1947, in Highland Park; she passed in February 1985. Mr. Couture was the treasurer of UAW Local 155 during his employment at Snyder Tool in Detroit, where he worked from March 1941 for approximately 30 years as a toolmaker/machine builder. He was a proud World War II veteran who served in the U.S. Navy beginning August 1942 until his discharge in December of 1945. He served on the U.S.S. Sergeant Bay CVE83 air craft carrier; his rank was Mach. Mate 2nd Class. Mr. Couture was a parishioner of St. Dennis Catholic Church and a member of the Dad's Club, the Knights of Columbus and served as an usher. He also participated in various church shows and activities. Surviving are his wife, Esther; children, Roger, Gary (Judy), Rosemary, Margaret (Billy), Patrick, Theresa, Christopher and Lucy; step-children, John and Jodi; sisters, Madeline Ellison and Mary Patricia Riley; step-brother, Charles Lozen; grandchildren, Jessica, Allison, Heather, Randi, Audrey, Benjamin, Billy and Angela; six great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and in-laws. He was predeceased by siblings, Claire, Joe, Bernadette, Cecilia, Victor and Edward Couture; half-brother, Franklin; and Lozen step-siblings, Arthur Jr., Lorraine and Robert Sr. Visitation, 3-9 p.m. Wednesday at Wm.
