Labbe, Concord - Decorated World War II veteran November 11. 2004 8:00AM W illiam Dennis Labbe, 79, of Penacook and North Fort Myers, Fla., died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2004, at Concord Regional Visiting Nurse Association's Hospice House in Concord. Calling hours will be held tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Bennett Funeral Home, 209 N. Main St., Concord. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday at 1 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in Penacook. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Penacook. Memorial donations may be made to Make-A-Wish Foundation of New Hampshire, 66 Hanover St., Suite 101, Manchester 03101. ~~~ He was born in Concord, the son of William A. and Mary (Parker) Labbe. He served in the U.S. Army infantry during World War II and was involved in the invasion of Normandy. He received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Combat Infantry badge. He worked for the State of New Hampshire Department of Transportation for 36 years. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Penacook and the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree. He enjoyed his grandchildren, spending time at his cottage with his family, traveling and his home in Florida. He is survived by his wife, Barbara A. (Flanders) Labbe; two daughters and their husbands, Sharon and David York and Robin and Brent Heath of Penacook; two stepsons, Richard Smethers of Nashville, Tenn., and Donald Smethers of Middletown, Ohio; two stepdaughters, Sharon Smethers of Springboro, Ohio, and Cynthia Carlson of Middletown, Ohio; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one brother, Robert Labbe of Huntsville, Ala. He was predeceased by his first wife of 56 years, Arlene Labbe.
