    3. Monday, November 22, 2004 Alexander J. Richards Jr. 1927-2004 MADISON -- Alexander J. Richards Jr., 77, of Madison died peacefully on Friday, Nov. 19, 2004, at home with his family around him. He was born in Madison on April 4, 1927, the son of Alexander J. and Lucy (Ouellette) Richards Sr. He was a graduate of Madison High School, class of 1947. He married the former Lorraine DeRoche on July 10, 1948, in Madison. He served in the Navy during World War II on the USS Princeton. Alex was a lifelong resident of Madison. He was a former employee of Great Northern Paper Co., Norrwock Shoe Co. in Skowhegan, and Redmond's Saw Mill. He was a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Waterville, retiring in 1989 after 20 years of service. He was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus and the Tardiff Belanger American Legion, both in Madison. He was a communicant and eucharistic minister of St. Sebastian Church. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, playing golf, working in his garden, family get-togethers, and visiting with friends and neighbors. Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Lorraine of Madison; a daughter, Elaine Lloyd and husband Jeff of Madison; grandson Justin of Brighton, Mass.; granddaughter Emily of Madison; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by four brothers, Frank, Joseph, Frederick and Walter; three sisters, Emaline, Rosalie and Adeline; a son, Gary; and a granddaughter, Jessica. A memorial Mass will take place at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 24, at St. Sebastian Church, Madison, with the Rev. Georges Plante officiating. Burial will follow at St. Sebastian Cemetery. Donations may be made in Alex's memory to a charity of one's choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan.
