LAWRENCE E. CAOUETTE - Westerly 01:00 AM EST on Tuesday, November 2, 2004 LAWRENCE E. CAOUETTE, 87 of Woody Hill Road, a conservation officer, game warden and detective, died Sunday at Westerly Hospital. He was the husband of the late Beatrice Diane (Trudel) Caouette. Born in Central Falls on Dec. 27, 1916, he was a son of the late James and Luna (Pratt) Caouette. He had completed many training and certificate programs, including basic police instruction in 1961, the Rhode Island Municipal Police Training Academy in 1965, maritime law-enforcement academy in 1966, and a University of Rhode Island course in scientific criminal investigation in 1973. Mr. Caouette had served as a conservation officer and game warden for the state Department of Environmental Management, in the old Division of Fish and Game, for more than 30 years, and also had been a federal deputy game warden. In 1978, he became a detective and gained his certification in environmental management. In 1969, he was named wildlife officer of the year by the Shikar Safari Club International. On Aug. 20, 1966, as a detective of the Rhode Island Division of Enforcement, he was congratulated for a job well done, after being assigned to the observation tower at Hannah Robinson Grove during President Johnson's visit to Rhode Island. He enjoyed teaching local youths, and others, about sportsmanship, giving lessons in hunting, fishing, and how to tie flies. He leaves five daughters, Fay Snyzyk and Ann Marie Caouette, both of Pawtucket, Norma Bastic of Lincoln, Sandra McCrory of Woonsocket and Sue Gonzales of Providence; four sons, Eugene L Caouette of Westerly, Wayne E. Caouette in California, Peter J. Caouette of Putney, Vt., and Edmond T. Caouette of Corinth, Vt.; a brother, Edmond Caouette of Jackson, Fla.; 34 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; and 26 great-great-grandchildren. He was the father of the late Lawrence Caouette Jr., and a brother of the late Lena Cardarelli, Beatrice Bressette and James E. and Francis "Jack" Caouette. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, Main Street, Hope Valley, in Hopkinton. Burial will be in White Brook Cemetery, Carolina, at the Charlestown-Richmond line.
