MAYERS: Tami J. (Socquet), 43 Monday November 15, 2004 MAYERS: Tami J. (Socquet), 43, of 121 Finney Drive, Lyndonville, Vt., died Friday, Nov. 12, 2004, at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H., after a courageous and lengthy battle with cancer. She was born Feb. 2, 1961, in Montague, Mass., the daughter of Paul and Maryann (Gaudry) Socquet Sr. She attended local schools in Turner Falls and was a graduate of TFHS, Class of 1979. Mrs. Mayers started as a part-time employee at JCPenney store in Greenfield in 1977. She continued her career as a trainee at JCPenney in Greenfield until 1985; then became merchandise manager in Bennington, Vt., from 1985-1991; in Sturbridge, Mass., from 1991-1995; and in Latham, N.Y., from 1995-1996. From 1996-1998 she was the operations and personnel manager in Johnson City, N.Y.; from 1998-1999, she was the district operations and personnel manager in Clifton Park, N.Y. In 1999, she became store manager in St. Johnsbury, Vt., where she worked until present. She led this store to Chairman's Awards in 2001, 2002 and 2003. She was presented the Women of Achievement Award for the Professional Business Women's Organization. She was a volunteer for the United Way of St. Johnsbury, Vt., and was active in the Girl Scouts of America, Upward Bound, Hand to Hand, Warm the Children and the Lyndonville Fire Department. She was a member of the St. Johnsbury Rotary Club and was Rotarian of the Year in 2001. Besides her parents, Paul J. Socquet Sr. of Montague, Mass., and Maryanne Socquet of Greenfield, Mass., she leaves her husband of 19 years, Robert A. Mayers of Lyndonville, Vt.; the loves of her life, her two cats, Phillip and Grace; one brother, Paul J. Socquet Jr. of Turners Falls, Mass.; one sister, Gail E. Pearson of Turners Falls, Mass.; and several aunts and uncles and many nieces, nephews and one great-nephew. Funeral services will be Thursday, Nov. 18, at 9:15 a.m., from Kostanski Funeral Home, 1 Kostanski Square in Turners Falls, Mass., followed by a liturgy of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. Anne's Church with the Rev. Stanley J. Aksamit officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be Wednesday, Nov. 17, from 5-8 p.m., at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, in care of Oncology Department, 1 Medical Center Drive, Lebanon, NH 03756; or the the Lyndonville Fire Department. A memorial service will be held in Lyndonville, Vt., at a date and location to be announced. Kostanski Funeral Home in Turners Falls is in charge of arrangements.
